Engine Housing Painting... POR-15
Engine Housing Painting... POR-15
Has anybody painted an iron with POR-15 before? I was reading the temperature threshold was up to like 570 degrees. Thought it may be good to use due to it's durability on the irons. Any thoughts?
POR-15 is a rust converting paint, it likes a little rust to bite on to.
If you're irons are rusty and you're not going clean them it may work.
Seems to me it would be better, and cheaper to clean properly and use engine paint.

I believe its a dupont paint, although I can't remember if it is 100%, that is made just for engines. Theres oen thats good for roughly 575* as I recall and another with ceramic in it good for 1500* Just pick up a can of it and do a couple coats, looks fantastic too. If need be I can head down to the garage and double check the brand. Just pm me if you would like for me to.
Well, most of the engine paints I've used in the past all chip fairly easily and POR-15 is rock hard. I've cleaned the irons pretty well but there is some surface rust on the outside. POR-15 makes engine enamels that are designed to go on top of POR-15 that are heat resistant so I am just naturally assuming POR-15 can withstand it. I read some articles online that show people using it as a primer coat then putting an engine enamel coat over it. Was just curious if anyone has done it yet on a rotary. I guess I will be the first
Yea you need to order the specific engine enamels.
I don't know about using POR 15 itself as a base, yea I know some members have maybe they can tell us how it's held up?
Here is link to the directions

This is what I've found on the internet in relation to others. I'm hoping someone has used it for this purpose on a rotary. I never like being the first to try something new when it comes to chemicals... especially with the way POR-15 is
