Engine harness - can I ditch the whole thing?

I am looking at the engine harness on my 85 GS project. The rats nest, smog pump, and AC have been removed, and looking at the wiring diagrams suggests that harness (through right side firewall) is for emissions. Is it feasible to tuck and ignore or cut it, if I'm not going to worry about emissions?

Also, if you put a battery in the car, hoping the electric fuel door would work, and it didn't - what's the first thing you'd check after checking the fuse?

I am still newish to Rotors, but you are correct the emissions Ecu and wiring is on the right front side of interior under the passenger carpet I am not sure about which wires go to what maybe some folks can chime in on that.

As for the gas door there should be a manual release on the inside of left interior panel behind the interior wheel well driver's side it is kind of a pain in the butt to take apart, but that is what I am going to do for my '85 is going to get the same mod. I will probably take out the interior panel, and attach some mechanic's wire and slid it under the panel out of sight that way if it does go away, I can still release it if i need to.

-Sorry if i couldn't answer the exact questions lol, just was excited to spread some info around .

I wish you the best of luck on your build I hope I can help with this little bit of info.

Thanks I'll look for the manual release. I guess the electric release is actuated by solenoid, so that's my next stop.

the coolant temp sensor and oil pressure sensor for the gauge cluster also runs through the engine sub harness... make sure you retain those

I simply followed back from the plugs that were empty after desmogging. It was necessary to split the harness in a couple places to save what was still in use. This is what I wound up deleting.

The harness plug is still on the engine side of the firewall. If I ever feel inspired I'll remove the ecu under the passenger footboard and it's vestigial wiring.

The oil level sensor also runs through that harness. The sensor is in the pan. There is also another sensor from the oil pan in that harness - just don't know what it is at the moment.

Other sensor is for the sub-zero assist. Its presence depends on if it was a Cali car or a Federal car.

I hope I retained those! I discovered yesterday that my engine harness wiring came un-tucked during my 200 mile tow home with the shell last October and many got ground off on the pavement... thus why I am asking about the engine harness

i was also wondering the same sort of thing. i have an 80 sa car that im building that was a race car and was missing half of the engine comp. harness, and the rest was all cut and rigged. ive made my own harness for everything that is completely necessary to make the car run like ign, fuel pump, acc, start, all that. should i literally just remove the entire wiring harness and make my own, or most of it? if so can someone tell me what all id deem necessary for a street DD car or direct me to a thread with that info?
