engine choices for $ 1000 CAD

Hey guys,

I've saved up roughly a grand for my 83. My situation is that I have already blown 2 used engines, and I'm worried about my current engine as it has 160,000 kms. my origional plan was to rebuild and port my 12a and maybe save a little more cash and buy a carb. but i'm thinking now, that grand and possiable my is alot of moeny to be spending on a possiable 20 HP increase. Then i was thinking about going 13b, but in that case i'd have to buy a carb and manifold as well right? My question would be whats the best route to go, I have even been thinking about piston. I'm really mainly looking for reliability. 12a's have already broke my heart twice, but in mazdas defence the other engines were both around 150,000 km. I'm also afraid of cracking open the engine and find the housing flaking, or some other tradgedy. Let me know what you think.

Another route you could do is, Save up another 1000 and get a Mazda Re-man. Atleast you know it will last you a LONG time... But 150k isnt much. My other engine blew at 220 and that was a heavy abused engine.

I want to port the 12a if I'm gonna go with a 12A. If everything in my current engine is within spec. If i change cornor seal and springs, apex seals and springs, oil control springs, what else would affect how long a rebuild lasts?
