my new interior makeover! *pics*
well i finally decided to ditch my old burgandy interior and switch to gray. I was going to install the gray carpet to match everything else but my feet are always dirty so i opted for the black. It took me about a week and a half to gather most of my parts (thanks a lot to DoLuck and the local junkyards) and install everything. These are just a few pics i took today after cleaning her up. It still needs a few pieces here and there like the seatbelts, air vents, headliner and all the rear pieces but i can deal without those for a while. Im just a lot happier now. it feels like i have a new car. well...kinda!

i love the first gen section. nothing ever comes out looking like a halfassed pimp my ride. its all so basic and clean and beaaauuuttiffulll. if i saw this title in the second gen section, i'd be concerned/scared. great job.

i have a tornado silver FB, and imo the bergundy interior was crap. mine was mint too... i still need a dash, but most of my grey swap is done... i used seatbelts out of my 87 TII thats in the junkyard, and base model blue seats which i used vinyl paint to make black... got grey carpet and most of the grey trim... oh and i need door panels... good times... sold the leather seats(they were completely mint), still got the rest of my red parts

Looks good. I happen to have a few spare grey parts if you need them. I know that I have:
- the vents (I think the up/down adjuster is broken on one)
- rear carpet (Not the best shape, but not too bad either)
- luggage straps
- Kick panels (not sure on their shape)
I think that I have a few other pieces as well, but I would have to check. I don't have the need for them, so if you want them, I will give them to you (just cover the shipping).

Who knows, if I happened upon a good donor with a perfect grey interior, I may opt to switch- but I doubt it.
But for a white car- I would say a black or grey interior would look best.

So how much did all those parts run? There's a local GSL-SE for sale, but it has a burgundy interior, which I despise... I figure the door panels and carpet are easy enough, it's the dash and other crap that's tricky... So what did you end up spending?

where'd you score the t2 seats? I've been looking for some of those in gray!
Could you take a pic of the rear carpet so I can see how the black looks with the gray ? Maybe a pic of the gray door panel with the black carpet?
Were those side mouldings always removed from your car or did you just do that?

Ill go take another pic tomorrow.
Yeah i removed the side mouldings 5 years ago when i got the car painted. The original color was silver, just like yours. Ive been thinking about putting them back on.

One option is to re-dye the plastic parts of the interior, then all you have to do is swap out the carpet, headliner and change seats.

Thats close to the gunmetal color Im talking about, and the burgundy looks sweet. What I planned to do is blacken the console like that so it matches the gauge cluster (I still cant figure out why Mazda was so un color co-ordinated with that choice of colors) And dye the door panel inserts black so theres not sooooo much red, and theres some contrast in the style. Or dye the vynil part balck instead. Cant decide which would look better.

Tom: By all means use the idea IMHO it looks best when you do the centre console + speaker joystick plate/change dish + gauge surround all the same colour to match the exterior. In my case I had a stock black exterior, and brought it inside on those bits. The clearcoat gve it a black lacquer look (similar to fine Japanese wood items! The RX-8 bits of similar finish draw from the same likeness)
It especially looks good with a black/burgundy shifter boot, making a two-tone interior that's tasteful and avoids the 5-years-later 'what was I thinking?' moment.
