Engine Breaking with a Rotary W/O emission

Hi, all,

A common setup here is to to have RB header and all emission removed. By doing this we have some amount of backfire and bucking when coasting and de-accel. I am wondering anyone use their engine to slow down their car?

Thanks

I'm still trying to figure out how to eliminate the bucking. But the pop pop is a nice sound....especially when I throw a nice flame out the back.

backfires over 4 bucks under 3. I've had people duck for cover when it backfires.

I use my engine to slow down along with braking which makes the cute poping sounds and no flame yet on the back since I still have the emission stuff on. lol

I always use my engine to decelerate. I've only ever had it buck in first going really slowly.

My car bucked under 2000 rpm when decellerating. I found putting in solid engine mounts helped this out.

I use the engine to brake until 2200 RPM or so, which is when the bucking kicks in for me. I don't downshift: brakes are cheaper than clutches.

Sometimes when i'm just cruising, if i don't give it just the right about of throttle it kind of bucks, it pisses me off, probably a bad sign, but i don't care. I plan on having a new engine in it by the winter. Anyone else have that? just curious. I have no cat. its hollowed, and i like the pop pop pop sound when i let off, then it gets that really deep rumble as itkeeps slowing down, it's pretty awesome.

but I LOVE the sound of the engine rapping out at getting into the higher RPMs, I love that scream that it has, and with 200,000 miles on it and it still does it perfect, I don't think im going back to pistons anytime soon.

It is cool to backfire like a machine gun and hang with trucks with loud pipes here in MN... I recently start to have a habit using engine to break in my other car (Impreza L AWD) all the way down to around 1000 rpm, and I loved the full control with engine engaged, feels like walking on my legs. But the 7, like most of us said here, it is not a smooth experience when it happens under 2K, I was wondering how people race our cars? (perhaps the rpm in a race never get lower the 2K)

I only downshift when absolutely necessary - brakes are easier and cheaper to replace than clutches.

It's not much of a race if you're getting below 2k... :P
I do this often, engine-brake decel. I rev-match downshift too. It's fun, I think. Clutch be damned! haha
And, yeah, my car will buck under 2k or 1500.. At that point I am usually going slow enough I just clutch in and brake.. Since I got a straight exhaust it pop-pop-pops, as well, I like it actually. I don't remember if it is the same with my FI as I haven't driven it enough yet, though the carb idle circuit was clogged somehow and ran lean, so it backfired like a ****. Sometimes real loud, too. I hated that.
