Well...there is a little button called search! Not to be an *** but there have been a couple great threads within the last couple months that have outlined this.

Go to rotaryshack"s page and ask Robert for a recommendation based on what you use the car for. he seems to be the man.

do you want reliability or performance? with the 2nd gen 13BT you will get a more reliable turbo motor than a 3rd gen 13BTT 13BT=190-200hp at the crank 13BTT=245-255HP at the crank with a smoother boost feel with more kick due to the twin turbo's.

Buy the latest you can afford. If its a Gen 3 you have 3 options, either the RX-7 or Cosmo twin turbos or go to single turbo- this has been done by many and there is a forum on this option.

If you have the cash Cosmo or FD block is definitely better than TII block in many ways.

Go with the 3rd gen engine, just ditch the turbos. They are no good for anything. Switch it to a nice single turbo setup. The TII engine is great, but the 3rd gen engine when done with a single turbo is more reliable, IMO.

But not if you want maximum power with reliability, the 13B will always outperform the 12A in identical set-ups.

However, I agree with you in one respect. Too many people buying their first RX-7 innediately dream of going 13B turbo, rather than learning about their car and gradually improving their 12A. A well set-up 13BT is costly and you never get your money back. It is a sound investment only if you intend to keep it long term and enjoy its performance. But if your 12A is dying then going 13B is a good choice.

As I said early, get the latest 13B you can afford, and if its a 13BTT think of going single turbo. You lose minimum allround performance but gain reliability.

Paul I agree with that.

My first RX-7 which I am on now. is a 12A
its a great teacher. carborated and simple. but when my 12A goes out I will stick a 13B in their.

I doubt anytime soon.
