1st question is, How old is the main catalytic converter?

The things that will help you pass are. Fresh spark plugs clean air filter, cap/rotor, and wires in good shape. If your about due for a oil change then do it before the test.

make sure that you drive the car for about 20 minutes hard on the freeway before you get to your appointment. Arrive just before your appointment and do not shut the motor off. You want it to heat soak and keep the converter hot.

There are guys that have used denatured alcohol in their gas to help lower emmisions also. They have posted on the forum, so you might want to do a search with the words, denatured alcohol.

When in doubt, have a pretest done. If you have been to a shop before and know someone there they will usually look at the numbers first and tell you if it looks like it will pass or not.
