Emission removal question
Alright. Removing it was easy. Just took off the two bolts holding the mounting down, and pulled every hose connected to it off. I left the hoses to the distrubutor unplugged, and plugged all of the hoses to the base of the carb with golf teas..*grin* Connected most of the extras from the card with a t pipe, and it ran okay. I removed my air pump, and didn't have a block off for the ACV, so i just let it go. Still ran fine, didn't back fire much. Then i made a block off plate, and now the thing backfires like there is no tomorrow. When i am driving down the interstate and let off the gas, it sounds like someone poping paper bags. Keep in mind with is above my music which is fairly loud. Anyone know whats going on? More or less, did i plug something i shouldn't of. Aditional info. I don't have a cat, i have a bonez presilencer, i cut ***** in the top of my air filter cover *i was bored*. And no matter how i adjust the idle, it dosen't fix the problem. Any help will be appreciated.

let me guess. It is usually louder if your over 4k. My car backfires the same way if you offthrotle over 3000. What kind of exhaust are you running. I believe it is louder because when you take the Airpump off the gases build up and then are igniting as they exit the tailpipe and not in the maniflod.
Ask someone to drive behind you at night. I bet your car throws fire now when it backfires. I know mine does.

Ive done this on every Rx-7 I have owned except for the vert and never had this problem.
What I did was what you did, but I used rubber caps instead of T's. I suggest you get some of them...
2nd do you got the cats still?
3rd at the rear of the intake, the 2 10mm nut thing (pipe-I forget its proper name) that is going to the cats, did you ditch it too, and make a blocking plate?
How thick of material did you use for the plates? I found out just regualr sheet metal doesnt work too well.

Well, if i does throw fire when it back fires, what would explain why people tag gating me back off... heh. Oh used pretty thin stuff for the block plate, but its working great so far. Its the same meterial as heat shielding. And i don't have any of the cats, the presilencer runs from the header, to where the cats used to be, so that little t is gone. what the hell was that thing for anyways?
