KS The elusive sensor

So there is a little sensor looking object that sits on the oil pan, right next to the oil level sensor. I do know that a wire used to go to this sensor but fell off and i would like to replace it for that reason.

Oh and my car is a GSL-SE

the sensor in question is a temperature sensor for the sub zero starting assist. if the oil temperature falls to 32 degrees farenheit of below, it sends a signal to the sub zero starting assist motor to pump a 90% antifreeze/10% water mixture form the tank into the carburetor. it was originally designed for colder climates. if you live in a warmer climate or don't plan on driving your 7 in the winter, i wouldn't worry about the sensor.

What Dave said except it is triggered below 0º F/18º C not 32º F. Page 248 of the 84 FSM pdf.

thanks for the correction Ron, my fault on the misinformation.

i also wanted to add that i believe (and i could be mistaken) that if a 7 has the CA emission package, no sub zero system was ever installed. would be neat to see some CA owners chime in.

^. Correct sir. im not from Cali, but I did order a Cali gsl-se oil pan for my s4 swap. And it doesn't have the spot for the subzero sensor, only has the spot for the level sensor
