Most elect fans I've seen have some sorta shroud. Keeps all yer fingers where they belong ya know. Gotta be extra careful with elect fans depending on how it's wired 'cause those things can come on even with the car off.

Looks like you got an 83. If you wanna go cheap with the fan, get yourself an elect fan out of a old Pontiac Fiero, they fit perfecting on the 83-85 radiators.

It definitely helps pull air through the radiator instead of from around the radiator. I think it's important to have other than just a finger protector.

That's probably something worth looking into. Is there a thermostat for this fan? Where would I find it on the Fiero?...I'm guessing it's not right next to the fan

The fan from an early 90's Ford Taurus works great too. I got mine from an '89 Taurus SHO, here's a picture. I bought a $25 thermostatic switch from Jegs to control the temp at which it turns on and off. You should use a relay and wire it in such a way that it can only come on with the ignition.

That Taurus fan looks slick. Is that the shroud that came with it? Also, where does that temp sensing tube go?

Yes, the fan and shroud come together. The temperature probe goes into my upper radiator hose.

Your upper hose, you say? How do you do that?
Do you just slip it in the end of the hose and then clamp it to seal?

I picked up a couple Fans for my '85 SE and Sarita's '85 S, but haven't had a chance to install them, or pick up the electrics for them...

Here, I found this pic:

I was going to install the Fiero fan before I swapped in an 82 radiator and oil cooler. When I sized it up against my 85 radiator it looked like it was made for it. A very nice fit. Oh and did I mention that it was cheap? 15 bucks, can't beat it.

Thanks for the pic inittab, I was searching last nite for info on it with limited success. I am still tring to find a slightly smaller (less depth) fan than my current Black Magic. My current fan is approximately 1/2 an inch too deep, and interferes with my P/S an A/C pulley sheaves.

Unfortunately, that one looks too deep as well.

I guess my Search continues...

You wouldn't happen to know the depth of that fan would you?

No, sorry, but as you can see, it is a fairly tight fit.

The one I'm seeling is 3.25 inches thick and can be mounted in front or behind the rad.......if that works.

You got it. If you look close in the picture of the fan, you can see the probe going into the radiator hose. the thermostatic switch kit came w/ a piece of rubber that's grooved so the probe hardline will fit within it.
