Electric OMP

Well, here's a question that's gonna take a guru to figure out. I bought an S5 TII motor/ecu/tranny...the whole works. Well, I just took the front cover off and was reading that the electric OMP MUST be hooked up before the car will run right. How in the hell do I get around this when I'll be using a -SE front cover, where the OMP won't mount? I'll be premixing, so I'm not worried about a functioning OMP.

Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated.

Bryan

Been there, dont that.Yes,the S5 ECU will flip out and limp mode if the OMP stepper motor and position sensor isnt hooked up and working correctly.
Theres actually two ways to do it.

The right way(which is what I did)..........
Take an SE cover,a S5 cover and the S5 OMP to a machine shop and have them build up the pad on the SE cover. Then mill it flat and drill/tap the new holes.Itll bolt up like stock and fit perfectly. The turbo drain will have to be routed to the extreme front corner of the cover, but theres enough room to make it work well and be clean.

The Ghetto way(but it does work)........
Block off the OMP pad and run premix. Then take the S5 OMP and plug it in,then tie it off to the side of the engine bay.Itll still do its thing, there just wont be any oil dischaged from it.The ECU will be happy and all's well.Except Im not sure how long the internals would last without lubrication. The stepper motor will be actuating the plunger,so there will be some movement inside.Probably best to cap off all the holes on the OMP to capture any residual oil inside, and keep the OMP lubed.
And if anyone is thinking,"Screw pre-mix,Ill just run a mech. OMP!",think again because the S5 throttlebody doesnt have a pull tab to run a mech OMP rod.And you cant run a S4 throttlebody because the S5 TPS wont bolt to it.Granted, you could rig it all together and make a hodge-podge functional S4-S5 hbrid setup, but why bother when option 1 only costs about 150 bucks?

Actually, there is another way to do it,but that requires you to do a full FC front X-member swap and a change to FC motormounts. Not a bad upgrade, but also not for the average Joe.

can't you just run a s4 mechanical pump? That would make it a lot easier!

No, as stated above, the ECU will put the motor in limp home mode.

Ugh, this is going to be a challenge. I'm on a budget, and that $150 was for the BOV that the shipper broke off.

For the budget, I'd say use the block off plate with the premix. Tie the OMP up somewhere still plugged in...

Cost = 0.. Jsut some time with a drill.
