Electric or belt-driven water pump?

I'm such a n00b that I didn't even know electric water pumps existed until I got my first Summit catalog. Anyway, do they make these specifically for RX-7's? (1st gens)

I saw when I searched an old picture, but nothing that showed me specifically where I could get one if I wanted one. So, if they are still available, is it worth it for the power you'd get back from an electric one vs. a belt-driven one?

Thanks!

-Jeff

instead of "...do they make..." it should have said, "does ANYONE make electric water pumps for 1st gens...."

all one needs to do to make the water pump ' an electric'
water pump is add an electric motor rated @ so many RPMs. the pump can be a stock pump and still uses a belt,( V-belt, cog type belt) to drive the pump. mount the motor and do the wiring. must consider the alt. air pump, A/C, P/S. though.

Most of them even state on the package that they are not for street use.

A mechanical Waterpump will run whenever the engine's running. You really don't have to worry about it failing. And if it does, you usually will know beforehand, as it goes into it's death rattle.

Good point. I was thinking I was probably going to have to replace my pump which is why I even thought about the electric to begin with (obviously to save the HP.)

On a different note, it's amazing the little things you can hear when you get an exhaust leak fixed! <grin>
