EGR Block Off or Plug. How have you done it?

EGR Block Off or Plug. How have you done it?

My 80' SA's engine died at the end of 2009. I found a donor engine from an 84, a 12A, and did the swap in early 2010. I stuck with the SA's intake which, being the federal version, has no EGR system. To get around this, I cut a tight fitting plug out of 18ga steel, tapped it in with a hammer and drift, and sealed/reinforced it with JB weld. This held through 17k miles of driving and three winters, and I nearly forgot about it until it blew out this past Friday after a cold snap. It got very loud very quickly, and it really stunk.

I'd like to hear of some other solutions people have tried, and whether they worked or not. For instance, has anyone attempted to weld it shut?

I know some will suggest just going with the later intake. This is a very reasonable solution, but not one I'm interested in. I don't have a newer intake on hand and I have a Sterling built carb that will only work with the SA intake.

Huh?

The only 1st-gens with EGR were 1980 California models.

Quicksteel. Search on this forum for how I've used it to block off the ACV port, which I think is what you're asking about.

put on a 81-84 intake manifold, problem solved. its a direct swap
