this is the first mail we sent her.....

To be on the safe side i would bring a truck / trialer, mainly becuase of the exhaust. And i don't know what you would do if the clutch did go out on it.

Yea that is a pisser. you are now commited to the 300. to me if she spent $800 on it the day she got home with it, then money is no object to her and she should STFU.

My dad complanes all the time because people will come look at a tractor and try to get our price down some and talk about the 1000's they are going to spend on fixing it up.

sold as is. it'd be hard enough for me to get rid of a seven.. I had a time trying to get rid of my parts car, it was on blocks and the interior was tore up but i knew i'd need something someday and it'd be gone.. sure enough i do now..

Anyway.. I wouldn't have said I'd pay anything back.. If she wanted to give the car back i'd give her the money, but otherwise she bought it, it's her.. You described the problem and she bought anyway.

She succesfully drove it away from your house. Once it was out of your site, your responsibility as a seller was complete. Sold as-is, and all that.

So you are realy giving her the money? She came down and looked at the car, did the rust appear over the trip??? You have to be crazy. I paid $1500 for my car and then I had to put $00 just to get the cancer out of the wheel wells. Did she even look in the bins? (screams out loud!!!) She may ask for the rest of the money back after that one.

Unhappy

due she said she was happy with it and your dad did not sell her the car. She handed you the cash and drove 800 miles and you know she was smiling all the way home, then she starts bitching about it... Dude stand up for yourself and tell her to **** off. What happens if ya buy a car from a dealer lot and the next day ya dont really like it? They wont give you a penny back and its your car. Deal done. Just my opinion...

she is just a crazy old hag, and i doubt she would have left us alone... and if it takes 300 to prove we have more than enough intergrity then we will do it. I never want anyone to feel disappointed because of me. Maybe one day she will realize what she did was wrong, or maybe not. anyways its a done deal. i'm going to try and move on and take this as a very hard lesson to learn.... i do feel like the better person for it so, i guess that is it.

To set the record straight the trip was a total of 450miles not 800miles. I drove to as far as Richmond, KY stopped at a rest area and came back to start the car it would not start.
So My Dad and drove over to Advanced Auto Parts I bought a Battery. Went back to the rest area and put the battery in car. Started the car and I was ok with this. Than I drove on toward Knoxville, Tn.. At the edge of Knoxville I came down a hill on 640 and 40 all at once I no clutch. I was ok with this because it was told to me the clutch was slipping. My Dad and I went to get a tow truck. So we called a Tow truck to get the car towed. Than we went home and I sent an email to QuagmireMan about how pleased I was with the car and what happened because his Dad asked me to let them know. Knoxville is a 100miles from my home.
So, the next day I got a call from the Garage about the car being so rusty underneath. They recommend car be undercoated besides having the clutch fixed and the inner and outer tie rod along with the bolt that connects the two was broken. They were in such bad shape both had to be replaced. The gentleman said that he would put it on the rack and show me when I got there. . The car was under coated. While it was under coated big chunks of metal fell off (I got there in time to see the guy spraying some of it.) After I got the car sprayed the guy said do not drive the car fast and he said I would be lucky if it lasted 5 years. I asked QuagmireMan in an email which he did not post if he knew it was a rust bucket? He very briefly said no but…that he was told it need to be undercoated. (I wonder why at that point he did not look at the bottom of the car? I would have. I thought he only had the car a year so. All that rust could not have just happened??)
It has serious rust issues there about 3 or 4 places rust threw. Two places by the back fenders and two in the front one by the driver side fender and the other by the passenger side floor board above where the exhaust is. This is the biggest whole about 4 to 5 inches in diameter. The sub frame bar that runs from front to back is very brittle I drove the car home from Knoxville and that is about 100miles from my home. On the way home the shielding from the muffler fell off going down the road and some of it followed me home. The doors have rust at the bottom of them and the metal is separating (all of this is really visible The front fenders have parts of them rusted off and they have pieces of silver plastid strips like a person would put along the side of a door to keep it from hitting someone door. (I thought who ever put those there knew that the car was a rust bucket. I thought that might be the same person who took the pictures at dust for the ebay adding.)
When I saw the rust on the rack I was very upset and I felt like the car was misrepresented. (I would have Represented it as a parts car.)

The ebay add says:
The vehicle has some moderate rust above the rear passenger side fender, typical Ohio car which could be easily repaired then painted. The doors open and close just fine. It is in need of exhaust work and the clutch has just started to slip slightly. I believe the gas gauge sending unit contacts need cleaned as well. The seat has a small tear and the plastic around the column is cracked. The car is perfectly drivable and could be driven home, if a moderate distance.

The car does not have moderate rust. I have taken the car to ....two garages they say it has serious rust. One guy said that he would not take it on even if he did body repair.
The sub frame on the passenger side of the car is falling a part. The garage would not do
A front-end alignment because they said the car was too weak. If I hit a whole in the road it would just go out again.

Why didn't you take it to a garage in Ohio to have it looked at before you drove it all the way home?

Honestly you bought something off the internet; what did you expect?

You have no one to blame but yourself. If the rust was so bad to begin with, WHY didn't you check it? You have EVERY RIGHT to look the car over from top to bottom when you get there. (Well, I would personally say you would, don't know as far as legality is concerned.) And don't try to play the "I thought that I could trust him" **** either. While it may be true that he misrepresented something (I'm not saying he did, just saying there could have been a possibility), its your problem now, because you chose to buy a car which you were not absolutely sure about.

Tough luck, learn from your mistake.

You had the right to inspect the car before you payed for it. You should have.

The only thing he did wrong was to give you money back.

Now that being said. Welcome to the Forum, We hope you stick around.

I payed 800 for a car that I had to tear down to the frame and rebuild...

Edit... I felt like I got a nice car for that deal... shouldn't have given them anything...

What I expect was for him to be honest...It is fraud when you misrepresent something.

There are people who sue over stuff like this and I have been told I have a case
But I am going to let it go.
You may not believe it ...but he did misrepresent this car (he said it would be easy to fix)He post my email address and he could get in a lot of trouble with ebay if I reported it.
But I am going to let it go. I am going to forgive him even though he has a mean sprit
and called me a crazy old hag....I am going to hope he grows up!

I don't know what your problem is! You buy a car that is notorious for rust in those areas and you complain! When you buy a car YOU take on the responsibility to check it ou before YOU buy it! I bought my 85 for $1500 in PA over a 4 hour drive. I checked the wheel wells and it had rust like 95% of the 7's out there. I paid $400 plus my labor to get it fixed.

So your saying its his fault for you not checking the car and having buyers remorse after you deside to check it AFTER you buy it?

What do you want from a car over 20 years old???????

Do research before you buy something. There are many books out there telling you what to look for when you buy a 7. Did you look for blue smoke? Did you down shift hard to see if the seals are bad?

Its all your fault.

robtherx7nut, I'd first like to welcome you to the forum. I wish it was under better circumstances. I'll give my opinion/impression of the situation, then Im locking this thread. I wont tolertae the personal attacks and behavior thats been going in this thread since I first posted. Thats not how we do things here. All are welcome to post without fear of getting flammed. Some of you guys need to reread the rules.

You both have valid points. Technically he could just tell you its sold as is. You had the chance to inspect before you bought. And for an $800 car, no law enforcemnet agency is going to prosecute so lets be realistic and try to come to an understanding instead of fighting over a small sum of money. I understand your buyers remorse, but thats not proof enough of fraud. I really dont think he intentionally tried to misrepresent the car. "Easy to fix" is a very subjective term isint it? Now you expected it to be in a certain condition and it wasnt. Your frustration is understandable, and thats one bad thing about buying used on the net. Everything looks better in pics. Quagmire feels bad, but also feels like he did nothing wrong, which is understandable since I dont think he did. So now we have a disagreement. I think it would have been better if you inspected it more before you took it away. Live and learn. I think his parents offer was more than generous. Maybe both parties can compromise on this? Say split the difference? Take $150 and a life lesson out of this? And if you need parts cheap, your in the right place. We'll help you out.

I changed my mind. Im leaving this open, but I am going to be watching all of you VERY carefully. Play nice my children.

We do get it, You feel cheated and asked for money back. You have to understand that most of us have at least two cars with bad rust in our junk yard and have fixed 2 or 3 more with it. I have seen cars with a perfect body but you could put your hand through the bin rust.

There are not many cool cars that can be bought running for $800, unless you think an 86 Chevy Nova is a cool car.

Now if you had payed $3000 then I would agree that he shafted you and should return some money, As is he lost $500 on the deal and was loosing $200 before giving you money back.

Why dont we drop this and you show us some pics of your shiney new exeaust and undercoat. How about pics of your other cars?

PS the RX-7 does not have a Frame.
