Some may have read my posts about my crispy 1984 GSL-SE, good motor, good body but never will be an award winner.
Getting the body ready for paint I wanted to remove the balance of the flaking paint on the window and drip rail possibly leaving it chome but will probaby repaint semi gloss or matte black. Went to Walmart and bought a can of paint remover ($14.00) which did not touch it. Thought about EasyOff which had removed old paint for me before. Within 10 minutes it had loosened the factory paint where it could be removed by just wiping with a rag leaving the chrome undamaged.
Sorry about the pictures. Flash makes the chrome aappear black.

Now buy dollar store black vinal and wrap it . No joke It has been on my car a year and looks new .
The tabs underneath that hold that trim on is still available. What I did was rip all of it off. Sandblasted it, hand sanded them, then sprayed them with trim black. I've barely had some chipping over the last year and it still looks great but I plan to respray lightly and clear coat with hardener in it.
I painted mine but never cleared it with automotive grade clear and as expected it lasted about a year before the black started to fade . Dollar tree sells vinal for 1.25 and I decided to just vinal wrap them. They have been wrapped for a year and looks fantastic .
If you want to use more expensive vinal be my guest , it will probably last even longer and come off easier , my point is it is incredibly easy to do , all you need is two microfiber cloths ( one to degrease with acetone ) a razor blade a blow drier ( I used it very little) and patience . I spent a whopping 7$ and you can't tell it's vinal , It matches the OEM sheen and requires no removal.
I need to do this on mine, does anyone know if these need to be removed when replacing the windshield? If so I will wrap them when the windshield is being replaced

Yes they must be removed to replace the windshield.
If you wrap it you don't . Super easy if you start from the top down.
