E-shaft pully WILL NOT COME OFF
E-shaft pully WILL NOT COME OFF
I can not get the bolt that holds the main pulley on, off. I broke a 3/8" drive 19mm socket almost in half, and have succesfully rounded the head of the bolt, I am at an impass, I dont know if I should go on and take the rest of the engine apart and worry about it later, I do not believe that would go over well though.
What to do, what to do,
What to do, what to do,
well the engien happens to be on a stand, uh, i think it is the 1/2 im not sure its the biggest on that comes in a craftsman 90pc tool set,.
I proceeded to use a big solid bar to keep the engine from turning then went to town on the breaker bar, its a good 2' bar, but like i said I put enough torque on it to bust the socket, then got another and decided to try pulling rather than pushing, thats when it rounded off,
Does this bolt go right int the Eshaft as the name implies? or does it go into a gear that is somehow attached to the eshaft? can i just cut it off and proceed as i had unbolted it?

That bolt along with the flywheel nut are both a PITA. I did break a good quality 3/8 drive ratchet on the main pulley bolt. 1/2" drive ratchet with a 3' extension worked well. Get an impact socket for the job, even if your not using an impact wrench. I find they have less of a tendancy to round the head of a bolt off.

I had a TII that I had lots of trouble with. Even with my 1/2" impact, which literally zips the flywheel nut off. I even put the flywheel nut back on, tightened back as tight as I could with the impact, blocked the fly nut and put the impact on the e-shaft. Guess which one gave first.
I finally gave up and took the motor to a friend at the Ford dealership, he broke it loose with a 3/4" impact, and even that was a stuggle.

My buddy had a diesel shop try to zap his off with a 3/4 impact gun, and he couldnt get it off. He had to use his 350 lb dad to stand on a 5 foot long tube on the end of a pipe wrench going over the pulley, and a 10 ft long tube on a 1/2 breaker bar going to the nut. That'll break it loose.

well the CHEESE worked..............
really I litterly picked the engine up and put it in the back of my brothers truck and took it the the diesel shop my dad and uncle work at, my uncle in the gear shop used the biggest F-ing impackt i have ever seen, litterly looked like a 2.5' jack hammer with a big *** handle and everything, that got it off

HEAT is a good thing to help out with getting hard *** bolts loose. A little trick i learned when doing the main pully bolt is to get a big *** breaker bar and rest it on the inside of the fender and while it is firmly held in place bump over the motor and BINGO that sucker is broken free
