e-brake adjustment

my e-brake does not hold the car all that well. It is tightened as far as it will go at the handle itself, so I'm assuming that there is another adjustment of some sort. If there is, where is it located? Is it somewhere in the line, or is it in each individual rear shoe?

I don't think there is any other place to adjust it. have you looked at you're rear shoes latley?

there's a way to do it on the e-brake handle if i remember correctly. i swear i've seen it in the haynes manual. if you have one check it out otherwise see if someone will look in theirs and write the process down for you.

There is a way to adjust at the shoe. Just look at the ends of the brake lines where they attach to each shoe and you should see a couple of nuts that will adjust the tension. I may be way off on this, but I know that's how it works on disk setups.

I had to have mine adjusted for out of province safety. It was bad, and I adjusted it in a few places if I remember, at the brake's and there is an adjuster underneath below the rear bins I think. lubricate it well while you are under there.

There are adjusters internal to the drums that expand them when you brake in reverse. They more or less keep the shoes close to the drums so that the e-brake is pretty close to engaging while it's down. More or less adjusts the tension as you go. Loosen the cable as much as possible at the e-brake, then pop off the drums and widen the adjusters at the bottom of the drum assembly (inside). Once it's all back together, just tighten up the ebrake a little more from the slack posistion and you'll be set.

Sorry about the mis-information joe, I was unaware that the drums were that much more difficult than the disks. At least someone was around to correct me, thanks Critoris
