Dyno tested the purple82

Here's my setup:

82 base model, LSD and rear disks
S5 street ported 6-port
secondary sleeves removed
S5 intake, active dynamic chamber
stock fuel injectors
emmissions controls in place
2 1/2 exhaust all the way back
Haltech F10 fuel control

It made 167 rear wheel hp on the dyno over the weekend and 131 lb-ft of torque. The torque curve is beautifully flat from 4000-8000 RPM. The dynamic chamber switches over at 6000 RPM and makes a noticable bump in power.

It's mostly tuned for driveability, but it's seriously fast! I'll try to scan the dyno run in sometime soon.

Isn't S2=81-82 and S3=83-85?

Nice results purple82
Wish I had the cash to have a setup like that to play with.....

That's pretty darn good!! That car must be fun as hell to drive! Who tuned it?

With a streetported S5 (high compression), I think you can squeeze a few more out of it. Do you have an E-Fan?

Driveability and longevity have to take priority over max power. I want to drive it for a long time.

The fan is stock clutch.

Sounds like a real sweet setup. If I was going to do a swap, that's the one I'd like to do. I have been keeping my eyes open for an S5 block.

I'll bet that the haltech wasn't cheap though.

It's 128 lb-ft, not 131. The green line is before tuning, the red is after.

Notice the bump at 6000 RPM, that's the dynamic chamber changing over.

Why would the 83 be a different series than the 82? The only difference between the two was the deletion of the lock on the gas cap in 83?

No, the '83 has the beehive oil cooler, bigger clutch, and lighter rotors -- I think.

I thought the changeover was in 84 because 84 introduced the GSL-SE and the different dash design, amongst a few little other things that I can't think of right now.

Nope. The '83 is a sort of hybrid year. It also ditched the 85 mph speedometer.

Why do you have the secondary ports wired open?

We call them S6 in Australia. And S7 and S8 for that matter.

Anyway... Nice figures, congrats.

They're not wired open, the sleeves are removed and the port is modified. As you can see, torque isn't suffering.

rx7.com has a dyno sheet of a stock 91 13b, secondary port sleeves and all.

http://www.rx7.com/rx7rx8comparo.html

(the blue is an S5, the red is an Rx-8)

There could be differences in the dyno and with the engine freshness, but there isn't any spot on the stock torque curve that is higher than mine with the sleeves removed.
