Dumb question. Gas visible at float chamber with ignition on?

Newbie question. Beginning point is NO gas in float chambers. Turn key to position where I hear fuel pump working and leave it pumping for a minute. Should I see fuel in the chamber window? Or do you need to move the key to the starter cranking position for fuel to actually appear in the chambers?

funny feeling I have gone to biblical flood to bone dry drought.

it's really best to continue the current thread u have started on this issue rather than starting a new one. with the key at the run position, engine off, the pump will run for a few seconds then stop due to not sensing any oil pressure. u could just straight wire the pump for the time being. disconnect the feed line from the carb to make sure fuel is getting to the carb.
