I have a dual setup. I use off the shelf Gates belts from O'Reilly's. The key is to ask them for a "matched set". If you don't have a matched set you will shred them in short order.

Yeah get them both at the same time, and install them both at the same time. Otherwise one will be streched out, and the other one wont.

I got sick of shredding a fan belt every month or so in my old '79 RX7, so I got a twin pulley setup. Never broke a belt after that (yes, you have to get matched pairs) but as the alternator pulley was smaller than the factory issue, I fried the alternator instead

I think the number was 3L220. I gave it a try on mine but I guess I had an off brand since it didn't last more than a month on there and I still had belt noise with it on there. I'm thinking the whole bicycle chain way of getting it on there was enough to stretch it out of shape to begin with. I've got the dual pulley setup and love it!

7215 It's a real automotive V belt. It's not that weak little fabric covered lawn care belt.

I've been using the 7215 belt since August and haven't had any belt slippage or damage to my waterpump belt. Both were replaced at the same time, however.

I've found that the way to keep a single belt from squealing after the airpump is removed is to keep the belt good and tight, and use a quality belt like Gates, or the factory Mazda belts that are made by Mitsuboshi.
Don't waste your time with cheap Korean belts, all they do is stretch throughout their (short) lifetime.
BTW, it takes more power to drive two belts than one. Not much, granted, but there it is.

Since I work at a NAPA you need to put a 25-7215. Otherwise theres a chance of hesitation. Thats a belt thats always there though so you shouldnt have any problems.

Ah, I see. I will include 25 from now on.

Thanks. I've got a newer pic where I installed short bolts in the OMP injector holes. Scroll down a bit. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=255025

Gents,

I had the same problem with loosing belts when I removed the air pump and A/C. Bought the Racingbeat double pulley and installed two new belts at the same time. This has worked fine for me although I do not have many miles on it yet.

To: jimtesla
You asked how to change them out? Loosen the Alternator bolts on both sides and drop the alternator down in the slot, (Driver side) then (on mine 83 GSL), fit the belts over the fan and work them over each pulley. When correctly lined up, use a lever to raise the alternator up to tension the belts. I used about a 1/4" mid point deflection with thumb pressure as a measure of tension. While holding tension, tighten the bolt in the slot, then the bolt on the off side pivot.

Best regards,
THC
