dual 10" subs behind front seats?
i forget who it was that had this setup, but if you have it, i have questions, because i'm about to do it myself.
Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1's
Rockford Fosgate 501s (subs running in mono) so thats 500w RMS between the two subs, seems good to me.
i'm gonna mount the sub amp, and the component amps behind the front seats on the vertical part of where the storage bins would be if i had any (i have sheetmetal cover) and i was thinking of just reinforcing the sheetmetal with some mdf, and mounting the subs in that.
pics and your thoughts/experience would be appreciated.

From all that I've read, putting it in the bins doesnt produce a very good sound. I've heard of better success of mounting them in the very back of the carwhere the hatch light is. That way it amplifies off the hatch glass.

Hornbm put it very well.
The storage bins will fire the sound waves directly towards the back of the seats. This gives the bass wave about 1" or 2" MAX until it reaches your body. I dont remember the exact number, but i think I heard that the frequency response is best at about 12" or so.
This is why firing subs towards the back of teh vehicle is often better, effectively doubling the bass wave travel length.
By putitng the subs directly under the back hatch, you will be at about 5 or 6" length, which is much better than the previous 1". Firing directly up towards the rear glass will give you a perfect reflection of the sound, straight towards your heads.

hmm another reason to put it in the spare tire hole. After all my spare tire wond fit anyway now that I got the SE suspension.
One 10 would be easy, but I dont see how it would be very easy to get two subs facing up though. Our hatches aren't very deep, and building a box like that would kill what little storage room we have.

I plan on purchasing a JBL dual voice coil 10" sub and building a custom box for it, aimed at the hatch....
I can picture behind the seats being an ok location (provided you actually built a cabinet into the car, instead of using the metal body as the chambed), but from all my experience as a professional sound-guy I'd have to say the hatch is the best place to put 'em =)
(and damn I can't wait to get my sub)
Good luck with your project.
