Has anyone removed the metal fuel lines? What did you have to remove to get them out? Are there replacements available through mazda? What is involved with dropping the gas tank? Will the Diff. have to be removed? TIA

 

I just recently dropped the tank from my 85 gsl. It wasn't that difficult. You have to remove a metal shield in front of the tank, a small plastic one at the drivers side rear wheel well, and remove the 3 bolts located around the gas cap. After disconnecting the fuel lines the tank is removed by unbolting four bolts. The tank is behind the differential so there is no issue as far as that is concerned. Hope this helps a wee bit. just loosen the brackets and pull it out. i've replaced several (on my old cars) with 3/8 fuel rail from local speed shop. doing it again come spring for the bridge

 

All true, but you don't have to remove the 3 screws in the gas door hatch. My 85 had a hose clamp I was able to take off from beneath and drop the tank.

 

True, you can just separate the rubber tube from the metal pipe by loosening the hose clamp. It seemed just as easy to me to remove the screws. I wanted to clean out the metal tube anyway since it was corroded. Not to mention it seems like it may be difficult to reconnect the two when installing the tank since they were a snug fit and I needed the room to apply the force necessary to push them back together.

 

i did this a while back, id make sure to wear some goggles because its filthy under there and u dont want that crap in your eyes like what happened to me, make sure you drain the gas tank as much as possible, i spent 3 hours draining mine thru the hose the filter sets in, makes it less heavier and easier to work with, good luck

especially if you are wearing contacts, lol. its easy. pull the rubber lines off. i thought it was easier to just pull the filler with the tank. the hardlines are decently easy. i had to do my main line. dave and i just ran down to autozone and bought the longest they had. hand bent it in. they are only held on buy 10 or 12mm bolts and brackets, one every so often. also MAKE SURE THE TANK IS VIRTUALLY EMPTY. otherwise it becomes interesting very quickly. one tank strp has a hook on it so that you can undo it and leave that side hooked as you unscrew the other. makes it a touch easier.
