downed rpm backifire

If I am in nutral and I rev it up high and let drop down with out giving it gas is it natural to have that backfire sound. I know race cars do it but I do not have a race car. Staright pipe exhaust right now so there is no back pressure.

I haven't done it yet. I just got the carb on today and I plan on taking it down to one of the muffler shops to get an exhaust system put on it. I'll probaly get a flowmaster to put on it. Don't know what series yet. I have onluy had the car a little over a month or so, so I still have get plates for it and insurance. I'll have her on the road in about 3 weeks and I will let you know. I'm going to use one of the zero-G speed measurement boxes. I have laying around the garage somewhere. I'll probaly have someone measure my on my radar. One perk to being a cop.

My old Rx-7 w/ a 13B Streetport/Mikuni/RB dual exh set up looked like the Batmobile on fast deceleration. It certainly drew attention.
