So I was wondering, arn't the 1981 RX-7's carbureted? If so, how is it that I see pics of these 1st gens with Ram Air/Cold Air intakes on them and no air filter for the carburetor? It seems as if they're fuel injected, but I didn't think they were.

They were carburated - except for the 1984/1985 GSL-SE with the 13B (larger displacement engine).

Weclome to the board.

I think he is talking about having no filter in the carb airbox, and instead have the typical, cold air intake run from the snorkel on the airbox down into the fender. Like what you see on Hondas, but instead hooked up to the OEM airbox.

I don't know what kind of cold air intake he is talking about either. The only thing I can think of is maybe he is looking at all the 13b swaps or something.
