Does anyone dyno a 1st gen?

I'm trying to find dyno numbers on different combos and can't seem to find anything. I bought a 1st gen as a back up car for my 3rd gen and I want to add some power and fix some problems. I could take the easy way out and turbo it, but I'm curious about NA power levels. Oh yeah, before anyone laughs at me for calling a turbo the easy way out, I have an extra 3rd gen motor, turbos, tranny, diff, driveshaft, axels, hubs, etc etc from a parts car and I have plenty of free time.

I don't think a dyno would go low enough to check an FB.

I personally don't know about N/A Dyno numbers, other than: (Curiously enough, found by the Magic "Search" button

I'm just curious... What prompted this is a discussion I was having with a friend about how big of an improvement the RB streetport system would make. Mine's never been to the dyno. I can pull up a few results off some peoples webpages and post, but that's about it.

Tim Schuh's Car 85 -SE
RB short primary, electric fan, AL flywheel, intake etc etc...
http://www.wankel.net/registry/1st/tschuh.html

Jim Linihan's Car 85 -SE
RB long primary system, air pump gone, stuck 5&6th ports

if anyone has others, please post

Its not that hard, I think theres 3 of us doing it here right now. Mind you there not FD motors,. but it follows the same principles. I would have went with a FD motor is they didnt want a 1000 more for it, cuz it says RX-7 on it

Mine will be dyno tuned I can assure you

Spyfish007,

So you picked up a 1st gen huh? I hear ya loud and clear on the second car thing. So what year / model did you get? Is it all stock? Mine got a lot better after the full exhaust. Post some pics if you got um.

Thanks for the great information. I had been searching, some, on the net and hadn't found much yet. There are just so many 1st gen sites out there. I'm thinking that 170 is maybe the max number on the EFI setup? Anyone try NOS on it?

Ok, ok, so you guys are starting to twist my arm for a complete conversion. I will have to wait till I have the 3rd gen running like a champ before I take down the 1st gen. When I could barely beat a 4.0L Jeep Wrangler I decided the car definiately needed more power.

FD Racer: Yeah, I finally got a back-up car about a month ago. I've been waiting on getting my digital camera back from a friend in TX, so I haven't taken any pics or said much about it. The car is a 1985 GSL-SE silver with red interior. The car is pretty clean with a couple of paint scratches and a few pieces of the interior (small) that need to be replaced and a few panels than need to be dyed. It has a slight ignition miss, slight exhaust rattle, and loose steering, but other than that everything works great. I got it for $1200 so it was a good deal. I put a Kenwood radio in it last weekend and now things are acting funny. Oh well, it will be fun.

do you mean on the stock EFI setup? I hope larger numbers are doable with aftermarket EFI. I am going to try a wolf3d on mine which will remove the largest intake restriction, the AFM. That should boot up to respectable numbers with a good exhaust. A higher compression motor is being mulled around my mind, maybe a 4 port, and that should yield 200+ with a streeport.

Yeah I mean stock EFI. Thanks for the info. Two questions for you. How loud is your exhaust? Why a 4 port over 6 port?

Why would you want a 13B-REW when you could have a 12A?

right now my exhaust is too loud. When I get back from the big sandbox I will try a different setup.

the 4 port housings flow better than a 6 port stock, and can be ported much more than a 6 port.

I am thinking 4 port, weber intake, 50mm TB, wolf ECU, but that is in the future. I want to see how far I can take the stock motor with an aftermarket ECU, maybe a 2nd gen intake.

Unless you plan on Porting the **** out of it, keep it a 6 port with the actuators. Enjoy the torque!

Yaaahhhhh!!! It's an FD invasion from the South Forum!! Spyfish is part of a loose group that runs north DFW Mazda club. As much as you post, I can't believe you had a problem finding HP or dyno numbers in this corner of the sandbox! 180 HP on a street-port NA 12A is attainable with a carb so EFI gains should be slightly better. If the engine has the normal steel apex seals, then a 100 shot of NOS will be fine...it's interesting to see you in this Forum, Spyfish...

Mmmmm, well if I can keep it somewhat quiet and get near 200 RWHP and then over with some NOS I might just do that. As much fun as adding all the 3rd gen stuff would be, I probably need to keep all that as a backup for the 3rd gen. I wonder if I can do this by the end of the June ....

Mar3: Haha ... next on the block is a 10th Anv TII! I might make that one a HP monster. I do my best to get around. I'm planning on coming back to Dallas in early July, but work plans might say otherwise. (Oh yeah, I will be driving the 3rd gen.) The only thing about the 1st gen I don't like is how high you sit in the seats-that drives me NUTS!

Does anyone reprogram the stock ECU? Do people go to piggy back systems? I will probably try and dig up some 2nd gen parts like the MAF.

isn't an engine swap and heavy modification sort of a defeat on the second car purpose? if anything i would do exhaust, intake, small lightening. that should get it respectable and reliable.
