Does anyone actually use the hatch straps?

I never have. I suppose they thoughtfully designed to hold the moonroof when off, but I've never had a problem with it sliding around. I am about to get new carpet for the hatch custom made and figured I'd take off the straps, but if anyone has a good use for them let me know.

Right on.

I have never used them before however the previous owner used them for holding down boxes in the back. If you have not used them by now you might as well take them out...at least IMO.

They just get in the way when you try to remove the spare. They're off this weekend!

Right on.

Only time I can see where they would be a great benefit would be if the roof was back there, and the unspeakable happened. Someone had already removed the straps (and any hooks that were used) by the time I bought my car. I thought about looking for a set, just in case I ever wanted to replace them, but haven't thought about it much. If I were to ever crash the car, an unsecured roof panel may (or may not) be my biggest worry..........................

LOL Bob, I guess its true that it would be a nasty missle in an accident if it was un secured, but having said that I only used mine a few times and its not all that great a design as far as user friendlieness.

I use them to tie the sunroof down. Not that I think that it will move, or have problems staying put, but just sorta because they're there, and it looks cooler.. To have built-in straps MADE for that purpose, it just screams "This sunroof was MADE to be removed and stowed away in it's leather case under these straps"

I carry around my toolbox all the time, and I just use the straps to secure it. Works perfectly...

I use them to secure a school bag that carries my medical kit. It has booster cables, air compressor, socket set with ratchet, duct tape, spark plugs and 1L of 20W-50.

I used it to tie down the glass roof - wouldn't want that thing to flip up and fly forward in the event of a sudden stop...

I use them to hold cargo, like engine blocks, transmissions, etc. I usually forget that I'm hauling and then I start "haulin'" and bad things can happen.

Furthermore, I use them to hold the hatch down in case it cannot be latched down... for instance, the time I used the RX-7 to haul a rooftop A/C unit The box fit widthwise and heightwise to 1/4" clearance, but depthwise, nogo. The fun part was I also had to go to a hardware store for some supplies, AFTER I picked the unit up! Slid the seats forward, flipped the seatbacks forward, and i could JUST get the box in far enough to shut the hatch!

cutting the tag off a matress is only illegal if the business selling it cuts it off, after purchase the owner can cut the tag off if they deem necessary

Had a bunch of computer parts in the back yesterday, and forgot about them. One hard right, and they were scattered across the back. Guess I oughta find a replacement set of straps, as I refuse to always drive my truck when I want to haul small stuff.
Had the sunroof removed today, and slid it across the back a little.
Damn car is just too much fun.................................... if thats possible.
