I'm not sure about 84-85, but 79-83 does not.

Check for corrosion on the YL (yellow w/blue stripe) wire connector at the fuel sending unit. Mine didn't work before I got a new sending unit and new female connectors.

Heck, my gas guage works perfectly, when the tank is more than 3/4 full..

Thankfully, it has a trip odometer that I reset at every fillup.

85-85's have the little low fuel sensor as part of the gauge float assembely.
Mine never worked once, but when I installed the FC intank fuel pump assembely into my 84 tank,it had the same low fuel sensor on it.I wired it up,and what do you know,it worked.Comes on dim about 1/4,then brightens up as I pass 1/8.Probably a little premature, but thats likely due to the FC having a different shape fuel tank.

there are 3 connectors at the tank on the little bulkhead fitting, one is a ground, the other 2 are for the gauge and the low level light. on my tank the low level light pin has simply dissolved from corrosion, my spare tank is the same way.

No the '79-'83 doesn't. 84's and 85's do. Although, in my '84 I would love to take corners to see the light go back off after it came on.

if you dont have a light then you're bulb maybe out or something else...
i have a GSL-SE and once it gets below 1/4 it will slowly light up and slowly fade, i'd say with a spa of 10-15 seconds....
and the lower to fuel level goes the more frequent the light lades in an out until you're sitting at e which it then will be steady fading for 5 second span from fade in and out

My 84 has it and I love it.
When It comes on at Summit Point, I can go about 2 more laps or 4 miles before it starts starving for gas in the right hand turns.

Then it time to pit for 15 more gallons. Repeat the process every two hours.

These cars are kinda weird some "like mine" will pick up all the gas in the tank but most will leave a gallon or so in the tank and run out. I have never had a tank apart to find out why this is.....anybody who has taken one about know why this is?

When I replaced my tank on my '85, I looked inside the thing. I'm thinking that it's the numerous baffles and whatnot that cause that. That's the only thing I can think of.

i'm not sure if i'm not running on low enough fuel that it doesn't turn on, or it just doesn't work. any suggestions? just check the wire connections?

Check the wire connections. I never saw the light until I swapped in a new fuel sending unit and stuck on new connections. The wire that is the light (yellow with blue stripe) was corroded as hell over the connection and prong. Was very brittle and broke apart when I took the connector off.

Regardless of the sending unit's condition, when you turn your key to the ON position, prior to starting the motor, all idiot lights should light up. You'll be able to see it then.
