Do I NEED the yoohoo belt?

Is there any problem with just removing the belt only to the air pump to see how the performance difference is? Also There's a belt that goes around the crank, alternator, and water pump as well as one that goes around the crank, water pump and air pump. Will I be fine just taking the air pump belt off?

Not really. If you still have the stock cat and you run the car any length of time without the air pump running, you will melt the converter down. If you are planning on running without the emmisions, I suggest going with a dual alternator pulley. The yoohoo belt is a cheap alternative, but it's up to you.

So if I go for like a day with the belt off, will anything get screwed?

A day won't hurt it but I doubt you'll notice any hp gain. It's so small a dyno probably would show it.

You don't need the yoohoo belt. A single decent belt tightened correctly shouldn't slip. The dual-belt alternator pulley does look kinda cool, though, and it'd be nice for redundancy. My belt broke one time and by the time I noticed the engine was already getting uncomfortably hot.

You do not need the yoohoo. I have been running a single belt for 2 years with absolutely no problems (related to the belt, of course) The yoohoo belt has actually been blamed for a few water pump bearing failures.

I love my yoohoo. I have had no problems with it, and it even saved me a tow ride home. My alternator belt blew, but thanks to the yoohoo I drove the 15 miles home.

Lets see a dual alternator belt break and not take out both belts

EDIT: a $14 is way better than a $1000 rebuild.

If you're not running the air pump, don't even bother with the yahoo belt. I had one on mine after removing the air pump and the water pump would still squeal at high rpm. If you're going to do anything at all, pickup a dual pulley and 2 belts.

I'd put it on, just as a piece of mind. I've ran with a single belt for a bit and it was fine, but the contact area is so small, it might slip eventually.

Exactly why there is always a minimum of one spare alternator belt behind the passenger seat. There were two, but one started tearing on my first trip down to DGRR, so it got swapped out before it could leave me sitting on the shoulder.

im running a single belt right now with the air pump removed, i tighted it a little bit and isnt slipping but as a piece of mind im getting a yoohoo. and BTW hes right about cats melting with no air pump, those bitches get HOT! so take them off because all your going to be doing is block the exhaust flow making your engine run like poop

If you get rid of the mechanical cooling fan and use an electric fan, then belt problems go away. I have been using a single, normal belt and electric fans on my rotaries for decades with ZERO belt problems, even on my 9000 rpm road racer.

same here, and the yahoo belt is known for putting unneeded stress on the e-shaft which has caused front stationary bearing failures and premature water pump failures.

I am starting to wonder if you guys are talking about the YooHoo belt from Pineapple Racing or the cheapo 3L220 or whatever lawnmower belt. Don't get the mower belt, that is where all the "it's too tight/water pump squeals/too much stress on waterpump" stuff comes from.

+1 for emmissions removal, dual alternator belt, and electric fan.

The yoohoo belt is a hack but it will work in a pinch. Maybe keep one as an emergency item.

Go dual pulleys all the way like this:

i just have one belt..that goes from the alternator to all the pulleys, when i removed my air pump...as long as you have a good clutch fan you wont have a problem..so no dual pulley for me..and running fine

You don't NEED a spare tire but it sure helps if you get a flat
