Do I need a tune up ...or what??

I am confused why I get a rumble noise in my muffler after I let off the gas a bit. It is almost like a back fire . What causes that?? Midas muffler check the exhaust system and it is fine. he says I have a engine problem?? I was thinking maybe a tune up but engine problem??? what can the problem be?? Any help is always appreciated.....cjf....ps: i have a 85 GSL-SE....THANKS!!!

ok,ok....now can we get serious...I did the pissed-ons and I replaced the muffler bearings,,,now what... ( come on , help me out now......)

Could be a slight timing issue, but I wouldn't worry about it. Just minor backfiring through the exhaust, so unless it sounds like its going to blow your muffler apart just turn up the stereo...

Having said that, a tuneup is always a good idea if it hasn't been done recently. Cap, rotor, spark plugs (NGK, not Denso), and maybe new wires if the old ones are cracked. That's not the complete list, but a good start on it. Oh yeah, and set your timing too!
