Do the FB shifters?....

Do the FB Shifters have the same thread as the S5 or
FD shifters?

Here's why I am asking:

RX-8 Illuminated shift **** Group Buy

6 speed:

5 speed:

I want to know if:

a) It is the same thread pattern, or
b) Can I swap an S5 one for an FB one.

If not, I know I will make it work. Even if it needs to be cut and welded.

The sad part is, I don't remember which shifter I have in my TII tranny.

I'm pretty sure that you'll have to be creative and make the shift **** work. They sure look nice though.

Damn, that sure is cool!! Not to mention a good use of those damn wires under the shift plate for the auto tranny illumination. It would dim with the dash dimmer then too I think... Kinda nifty .

PS - DF, my birthday is coming up in March...The big two-zero, maybe you could get me one .

Well if you are skilled enough, and have the proper supplies and equipment, you can always fabricate an adaptor that would not be too hard, but you might want to have a short shifter befor you do this because this will add some hight to your shifter, but that would probably be thea easyest way...

Hey, if someone comes up w/a way to make this work before Mon, Jan 26, post it here so the FB guys can get in on the action!

As soon as I saw the first Rx-8 commercial I knew I wanted that shifter in my car...

Oh, and thank-you DF! If you hadn't posted this thread, I would have never investigated it and got one for my '91

I originally asked multiple-part questions.

So you just swapped them out? They are the same (as far as shifting goes?)

I have a Mazda racing short shifter and their site says
that it will fit shift ***** up to 88......then there is a thread difference from 89 up to 91.......

I would love one of those shift *****......I would then change the leather to burgandy..........

totally custom.........

Anybody else out there know if we FB'ers can get in on this?

Sweet! That's friggin awesome.

Edit: Does the s5 shifter drop right in the GSL-SE tranny? I wasn't going to buy one but maybe...

Edit#2: DF do you have a pic of the brown ****? I'm asking because I have a brown interior and I think it would match the stock look better. Thanks

just cut off the thread part of it and weld it onto yours....it's not too hard.....if u know how to use a mig welder.....the short shifters they sell from mazda racing have the thread pattern of the FB shifter so thats what i think people prolly do!

FB/S4 = large threads
S5 = Smaller threads. think honda/240SX
S5 will fit in all FB trannys as well as S4 trannys.

Does that mean that a S4 one will work for my GS? I'm thinking they might be shorter throw because my throw is super long. Actually I'm thinking I might just chop mine instead.
