distributors?

OK. i know that the j-109 igniters are better than the j-105 ones. but is there any other differences in performance from the 80 distributors than say the 83's?

The reluctor is shaped differently. The long shielded wires are ideal for DLIDFIS because they are a convenient way to get the signal out of the dizzy and into some ignitors mounted away from engine heat for longer life.

Aside from possible issues with hooking J-109 ignitors to the '80 dizzy's pickups and different reluctor shape, I'd say the the '80 dizzy is a great component of a stellar direct fire ignition system. There are differences, but they probably don't really matter.

I hated my 1980 dizzy until I did a direct fire setup.

I actually have three '80 dizzys just sitting there. They'll get used in cool ignition systems soon.

actually, the 80 dizzy is a good candidate for a direct fire (MSD or Jeff20B's DLDIFS) since it already wired up for it.
