80 rotors on 84 gs?
It was a change for the better. The '83-down outer bearing is *tiny*, and they go out of adjustment all the time if you drive the car hard. For a while there I was readjusting the bearings every other week.

PJ is correct... 79/80 BRAKE rotors will not work on 84/85.... the bearings are different... So the cross drilled 80 rotors I have... they wont fit the 84/85 I want to run them on... Hopefully some good pads are still there....

Are the spindles size the same? Could I swap rotors over, if I use the same bearings for the same rotor?
Thanks, Andrew

Except you won't be able to use aftermarket struts.
Andy, do yourself a favor an eBay those crossdrileld rotors. They are worthless other than for looks, and they stop looking good after a few thousand miles.
- Pete (wait... can you even *see* the brake rotors with the wheels on?
)

Get on aim,and IM me, rotaryrx7toy , please....

Andrew:
79-80 struts are unique.
Struts are the same 81-83.
Struts are the same 84-5 12A. GSL-SE *may* be different from 84-5 12A.
All struts will interchange as a unit, however.
Rotors are the same 79-83.

Calipers are unique in '79
Calipers are unique in '80
Calipers are the same 81-85 12A
At least, as far as I know...
that means that you could sell your rotors to anyone with a 79-83 12A car. Or you could put your '80 struts on the '84, but be stuck with non-adjustable strut cartridges (Illuminas are 81-5 only.) Use the '84 calipers (there's a thread difference on the hydraulic fittings. changed in ;81). Remember, I've got '84 GSL-SE struts in my '79. Same control arm/ball joint/steering arm.

The spindle is part of the strut housing, and the strut housing on the '79-80 is a different length than the '81-85. Nobody makes any performance struts for the '79-80, it's all '81-85, so if this is something you potentially care about then you do not want the '79-80 strut housing.
It's easier to change the whole assembly... unbolt the caliper (one bolt, pivot it off), unclip the brake hose from the strut, two bolts at the bottom, four nuts at the top, and it's out. Changing the strut housing requires disassembling this far, then getting a spring compressor and an impact gun...

Aw, c'mon Andrew - go take a look! Or look in a CSM - maybe like the ones I have on-line (85 will work fine for '84)
Cars with Macpherson struts typically don't have seperate spindles - it's part of the strut housing.
I also have pictures of struts out of the car on my site in the section on suspension swaps in my '79.
http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars...sion_swap.html
Besides, it's easy to change the whole thing. Pull the caliper, detach the brake line from it's clip on the strut housing, four bolts on top and two bolts on bottom and the whole assembly comes out.

Yeah, I got myself out there today to tackle it... Gonna go ahead and pull off everything tomarrow, control arm and all... I like it under Mar3's old thing...
Everything seemed so perfect and detailed.... Like all the rubber under the front end looks fairly new.... and the metal piece under the horn botton was all cleaned up like I have never seen, just minor stuff, that made me give more props to him! I cant wait to see how much better real brakes feel like.... dropped.... with new seats, steering wheel, and shifter.....

Thanks for your help everyone, Laters, Andrew
