Put the Engine at TDC mark on the pulley (yellow if your lucky) then align the dizzy gear to the notch on the dizzy shaft. Remove the dizzy cap and get a firm grip on the rotor so it doesnt skip a tooth when you stab it in. Put a little oil on the gear and stab it into the front cover. Swivel it somewhere around the 1/2 way mark.
With your timing light set Leading (L1) to the yellow mark while idling as low as possible. Anything under 1000 RPM is accurate enough. Then with your timing light on Trailing (T1) loosen the two screws holding the vacuum advance actuator to the dizzy and very slowly pull out or push in on it to achieve proper Trailing timing (red mark).

OK, so the issue is that I just rebuilt the engine and the pulley is off. So now the question is two-fold:
1. How do I install the pulley in the proper place
2. How do I get the dist in the proper way?
Thanks

Easier to use the flywheel trick to find the TDC. Once at TDC, install the pulley to hub or boss then stab the dizzy with marks lined up

SA pulley is riveted. You can't screw it up. If you have an 81 up pulley you need to find the flat spot on the flywheel and line it up flush with the exhaust side of the engine via the inspection plate.
