hey sorry im guessing there would be threads on this already but couldnt find them....
yesterday i finally got my 7, its an 83 with a 12a and the lad who had it before me had put a new exhaust on it and he says thats why the air pump is disconected because he was told he didnt need it. ive noticed sometimes that there will be some pretty bad petrol fumes after youve run it for a while, is this normal with rx7's and does the air pump stop it??

 

Well, the fumes, yes. Aftermarket exhuast it smells almost like you're just pouring your gas through to the muffler! heheh, well not quite that bad.

The air pump is intended for putting air into the catalytic converters on the stock exhaust system. This does help burn the fuel more efficiently in the cat. It is not required however, if you have removed that cats. If the cats are still in place and this is disabled, your cats will die very soon!!

So make sure that the catalytic converters are in fact gone, and if they are, then he is correct and you don't need to worry about the air pump.
