Question Dimmer Switch Question

I have an 84 GSL with a dimmer switch for the interior lights.

So....I know it is at least an 84-85 model part.

Now, how about the 79-83 models?

Do they have a dimmer switch, and if so......do they use the same one as the 84-85 models?

You have a dial that rotates up and down, the rest have a dial that rotates by twisting left or right. The dial breaking is common, you'll have to go to a couple or three cars 84-85 to find a good one. Then it is a bitch to get out, it is easiest to pull as much wire out with it as possible and cut it. Than splice back together with good but connectors.

Its not that hard... just use a cheap flat head screw driver and slant the tip... then slip the head on the top of the dimmer switch first then pry... then do the bottom... when the clips come off then pull slowly until you the connectors come out... then disconnect...

I think its the same... but why use an older switch... just find the same year switch...

Hmm.....

So this is only a 1984 or 1985 part?

I have no trouble removing or installing these switches.

They seem to pop right out if you take a flat head screwdriver to the edge of the switch, and gently pry it.

Then you just pull out the wire to the connector, and unclip it.

Mine must have been messed up by the previous owner. All the wires were taped and I could'nt pull it out far enough to unclip. They had frigged all the wires with a custom stereo, must have messed up the switch. If it comes out easy for you than you just have to hunt down another 84-85.

The switch in the picture has the same electrical plug conncector as the '81-83, and it will dim the lights but the dash mounting hole is round not rectangular as used in the '84-'85 cars.

Ok, well...

I tested the extra one I have, and it works fine. So, if anyone needs a new dimmer switch, I have it for sale on my Ebay account - $5
