differential gears

rear end is howling quite nicely
and the 3rd member needs replaceing

I know you can get a 4.7 from a kia sportage, as much fun as those would be they are a little short.

what can I scavenge some 4.2-4.44 3rd members from?

If you're talking about the whole rear end assembly that is.

I need to know how you remove the damn axles.... damn GSL-SE axles... I've removed the 3 nuts holding the dust cover... the 2 nuts holding the brake calipers... the brake line is off.... the emergency brake line is also off... It still feels like something is holding it... I've 10 time check what could be holding it... I've even remove the 2 screw that's on the disk itself.... I can't remove it.... help...

The pumkin on the RX-7's don't open up like the chevy's... its either you remove the 3rd member or it's in there... the axles are not retained by any clips.... cuz I've done it before but on a GSL but it had a disk brake too... Now I'm just confused because I've leterally checked what could be snagging... but nothing... check if theirs more bolts and nuts to remove... nothing...

to get the axels out after you've taken all the brakes off, just keep hitting the axel flange with a rubber mallet.

4.444 gears are in the *front* diff of a 87-88 mazda 4x4 pickup if you can find one. cheap alternative.

the kia 4.778 r&p are supposed to be a direct swap in

chuck clark over at mazspeed did the research and said the ring and pinion fits our diff.

99 and 2000 sportage 4wd auto and manual. and it looks like the 98 works too

I am the guy who got them and i am they will be installed today. In order for me to retain the stock LSD i am simple removing the GSL carrier swap the ring gears and putting that into the kia third member. should all bolt up once im that far. And I shouldnt have to set up the gears again.

if you do the kia swap it is the front diff off of a kia sportage 4x4. It is a 4.778 43ring-9pinion

Ill let everyone here and at mazspee know how it goes after and how diffiult the swap is.

I'd go for the complete modification, shorten the rear end, and put the whole thing in, locker and all

That'd be fun

no all i am doing is this:

remove third member from Kia diff.
remove third member from my 83 GSL diff
remove carrier from Kia third member
remove carrier from GSL third member
remove GSL ring gear from GSL carrier
remove Kia ring gear from Kia carrier and swap onto the GSL carrier retaining the LSD
bolt GSL carrier(with kia 4.77) into the Kia third member
bolt Kia third member into the GSL diff.

Looks to be easiest way(shouldnt have to set up gears) and measurements show the third members should be the same and bolt in swappable.

If i can ever get that ******* axle out ill let yall know.
the damn car is starting to **** me off.
