Question Difference between GSL-SE ECU N304 in CA and Fed

What does the ECU say for a Federal ECU GSL-SE? I know my CA GSL-SE has the N304, I was wondering if its different for a FED car.....

FED car? a non-CA or 49 state car? I have owned both and each ECU says N304 on them. The only difference that I have seen is that the CA car does not have cold start assist.

Wierd...I was going to do a search/post to find out this info...

I've heard that CA cars are different, but I'd like to know how and how to tell the difference. The original owner of my car bought it in CA and then moved to NY. Is there a difference in the CA cars? More emmisions stuff? Less HP? TIA to anyone who knows.

What/where is this? Aside from the obvious answer "It makes your' car start easier in the cold", how does it work?

Does it matter if my car doesn't have a cold start assist and I put a N304 with cold start assist on it? Is it suppose to be something a really major part that it won't work on a GSL-SE without it?

the cold start assist system consists of a little bottle of 90% coolant and 10% water a hose and some kida nozzle thing. when the temp outside is under 32? it injects the coolant mix into the motor, its supposed to make it easier to start the 81?-92 cars use a similar system and its basically useless. on a gsl-se the ecu will work fine with either system (there is only one gsl-se ecu) i'm not sure the system is even controlled by the ecu

I bought an '85 GSL-SE that had Iowa plates on it in San Siego. While inspecting the car I noticed this reservoir with coolant in it underneath the windshield washer container and went.. Ahhh, it's one of those things! So I ripped it on outta there and put a cap on the inlet on the lower intake manifold. End of story. I have it still in my backyard just as a novelty item.

***Message 8 from Dale Clark***

Just installed my Alldata CD-ROM of factory TSB's on my computer here at
work. I'm just starting to find some interesting things. Here's a good
list of all the "goodies" that are in the TSB's. Save this one, guys!

***

ECU Part Numbers (this is the version # that's on the ECU itself)
84-85 GSL-SE N304 18 880A
86-87 NA N326 18 880
N3Y6 18 880
87 Turbo N332 18 880
88 NA N327 18 880
88 Turbo N333 18 880
88 Convertible N338 18 880 (reported to work in 87-88 Turbo)
89 NA California N350 18 880
89 NA Fed. N351 18 880
89 Conv. CA N352 18 880
89 Conv. Fed. N353 18 880
89 Turbo N370 18 880

NOTE - If there's an "R" at the end, it's a remanufactured ECU. They
also change the last 3 digits to "881". Example - '89 Turbo Reman. -
N370 18 881R

A remanufactured ECU isn't necessarily bad; it DOES mean the ECU was
replaced.
