difference between 79-80 & 81-85 gasket kits?

my dad is in need of new water seals in his 79 Rx-7...only thing is...i know that if we tear into his engine...the least we are gonna need is an engine gasket kit and probly new oil control seals.

to my knowledge...the only difference between the kits is gonna be the intake gasket...am i right? also...are there any other differences?

im askin this cuz i can find a cheap 81-85 kit, whereas its hard to find a 79-80 kit for anywhere near that cost...

just the gasket set. all others are the same. Maybe you should consider using the lighter rotors from 83-85 and some porting while ur at it.

I think the exhaust gaskets are also different for 79-80, due to the Thermal Reactor.

he wont let me do anything extreme...but ill give him a good sized streetport
and i might go ahead and use lighter rotors if i can scratch up a good rear rotor...the other rear rotor on my other engine had the side seal IMBEDED (i kid you not) into it...it got overheated somethin terrible.

ok...so the intake and exhaust gaskets are different then for sure? nothing else tho?
