Dies in gear???!!!!

My car (12a auto) boggs down incredibly bad whenever it's given some gas and dies whenever it's put into gear. I've recently put on new plugs, wires, distributor cap w/ rotor, fuel filter, rebuilt carburretor, catalytic convertor w/ split air tube. I am completely puzzled. Could it be one of my coils? I could try taking a vid of it and posting online if anybody would like to take a look at what it's doing.

Jim

Verify spark on lead and trailing. Set the ignition timing. Check for vacuum leaks...

Sprayed all vaccuum lines with carb cleaner, didnt do anything. I am getting spark from both coils, but the trailing seems weak, no way to check for sure though. No place in the Akron ohio area works on rotaries, so I cannot get the timing checked. Any other suggestions?

Carb cleaner will not identify a vacuum leak. You'll need to visually inspect all of the lines. You can pick up a repair manual and a timing light for less than a garage would charge to set the timing. It is very easy to do...

I have to visually inspect all of the wires? Thats quite a few of them. I really dont have the time to spend on this car anymore. Working 60+ a week and going to school 19 is really leaving me with little time. And no place around me can offer any help. Maybe in 6-7 years I can actually get my liscense....

Not the wires, just the vacuum lines. Check the FAQ section for rat's nest removal. That might be the easiest solution for you at this point.. It will eliminate a lot of the vacuum lines and other stuff that can malfunction and cause issues.

I really wish I could remove the rats nest, but I have the dread emissions testing in my county and I've been told that the car wont pass without it. After looking through some old posts and a manual that I downloaded, I feel pretty sure that it is a vacuum problem, possibly with the leading ignition advance solenoid. I'll have to go check as soon as I can get up to the exhaust shop where my car is currently at.
