Derale 16" VS Black Magic 150

I am in the process of upgrading my cooling fan with an electric fan. My question is which one to get. I know that many people have used the Black Magic 150 electric fan 2800 CFM 15" blades but does the electric fan has enough clearance for a 1982 12A engine. spec's says 4 1/4" clearnance needed.

The Derale 16" Electric Fan with CFM of 2100 # 16516 at http://www.derale.com/derale/

Only requires a clearance of 3.9" thickness.

Will a 16" blade be to big?? Suggestions....

Thanks,

The stock height of the radiator core is 12". About 2.5"of the fan blades will drop down to pull air thrugh the lower oil cooler, so it's a win-win situation. I'd spring for the billet brackets. The metal rod and nylon bracket/lock system is for the birds. The stock shroud will work with a little grinding where the fan nylon housing touches it near the bottom. Even with it's slim pancake motor design, I only have 2" or so from the fan motor shaft to the water pump shaft! What's the latest on the 125 speedo '79-'80 gauge faces, Jose?

Also consider the noise the fan may produce. My buddy opted for the 16" SPAL on his T2 and it is just to damn loud for me. Loader than his 3 inch turbo back w/just a muffler exhaust at idle.

Just my $.02

I have the stock pusher fan up front, and a PermaCool 16'' fan as a puller hooked up in parallel on my TII. Now THAT is a loud setup. You can put your hand by the grille and feel the air getting sucked in

The Derale is louder than OEM electrics but not noticeable if you're sitting in the car. I have full exhaust mods, so the car is kinda loud to begin with, but I can't hear the fan come on when the car is at idle. I notice the RPM drop since the early Derales were amp mongers. It's been on this car and the previous '79 I totaled 3 years ago, so it's total running road time to date it's 4.5 years and counting. I spent 3/4 of a year rexless while I built up the current '80...

Nah, those shots aren't gonna do...you're clearly a fabrication artist, is there anyway you could make a fiberglas piece that completely replaces the pillar using your existing pillar as a mold? There's some pretty big parting lines where the pods mounted that are really out of place with the rest of your sano interior...

What do you mean by fabrication artist? All I did was bought the A-Pillar for 1st Gen from egauge.com and installed them. I did not have to fabricate anything. That's the way they came from the store...

I wish there was some were that will make what you say as a unit but I haven't found any as of yet...

I meant that you were skilled at fabricating materials into works of art. You can't tell me that your entire interior was just a bolt-on affair!! No freakin' way! When you say the gauge faces are meant to be lighted from BEHIND, how do we go about getting that illumination? do you do that as well? ' 80 cluster...

Done yet? I took a longer look at my set up and saw it was the Derale brackets that I grinded a little so that the factory shroud could be used. I took some pictures with a buddy's didtal camera, but the bum forgot to put the software in the bag when he came by this morning on his way to work. Hopefully, I'll have the shot posted for you tomorrow...

Well, if you are talking about the seats, they were done by a professional shop. They took the original seat frame and made new covers and new foam. The same with the side panels on the doors. The steering wheel, shifter **** were bought from Mariah Motor Sporst. The custom RX7 floor Mats were also purchased. So in reality the only thing I actually had to do some work on was removing the console and some of the dash parts to paint them, and the instrument cluster.... The A-pillar, I got it from http://www.egauges.com and it is a 1st Gen Rx7 item. But as you can see it will not be perfect because is not a one piece, you have to place it over the original one and cut holes on the original for the wiring... The interior carpert was the largest upgrade and the one that took some time...

Regarding the gauges. What I mean is that the material (vinyl) that I use to make the gauges is of the type that signs are made. In other words the original light bulbs from the instrument cluster will illuminate the gauge face and hence it will look like an indiglow gague (but first you must modifiy your original faces) meaning that you must erase the faces until they are white (in your case) in others until they are transparent on both sides... Once that is done wha la, indiglo effect on the new gauges...
