is this a deal?

i found a 1983 rx7. it has 120,000 miles on it. it needs a bigger fuel pump, a slave cylinder, a hood, and a new coat of paint. it runs too. the guy wants 300 bucks. is this worth it or will i spend more money getting it to run right.

fuel pump im not to sure about, the hood will run you about $100, slave cylinder about $30, so really you are looking at $200 more to get it on the road.

I always say no less then a grand to get a car thats not currently running, running...

Cause with these problem rockets **** goes wrong quick, I was replacing coolant hoses to eliminate a leak, I did for about 10 minutes till it would build up pressure and pop out the weakest of the 20 year old seals...

These cars are old, **** needs to be replaced

Does the engine work, turn over, why does it need a bigger fuel pump it could just be a dirty fuel pump?

Is the body OK, no serious rust, tires?

I would buy it just for the experience of working on a RX-7. If the worst happens you have gained and a parts car. If all goes right you have a cheap great car.

Budget for a minimum of $300 cash for the project and remember insurance.

Offer him less money, one of the joys of owning an early RX-7 is haggling over used parts. Its an essential skill.

It is well worth it. I'd say $350 or so for parts (upgrade as you replace ), so, a nice, running (I'm assuming) car for $550? That's gold!

I'd probably go for it for 300... worst comes to worst its a parts car... Is it registered? does the owner have a title?

Now for a question... why does it need "a bigger fuel pump"? Is this vehicle modified in any way that would warrant a non-stock fuel pump?

Either way, if he has to replace the Fuel pump at all, it's better to get a bigger one while he's at it.
