Deadening Removal...

i know a few of you guys have taken this crap out, so i need some tips. I did a search and it seems to me you have to heat the stuff up to scrape it off. What sort of things did you do to remove it?? i don't have a torch or heat gun...just tried with a razor (haha..no go..)

Yeah it'll chip right off when cold, and in bigger chunks too. Much cleaner. Be prepared for your car to sound like a tin can when stones and stuff from the road hit it.

thats the sound real race cars make so getting the stuff cold is easier to remove than heating it up? i live in florida..so it wont be getting very cold. i may go get a heat gun and see if that loosens up the adhesive...also, whats the best solvent to take off the adhesive left by the side strips? (the rubber moldings)

EXACTLY

just make sure to wear ear plugs. its not bad at first, but after a while it hurts your ears and im sure its not good for them.

personally i dont think it was worth it, but it was on my "project car" and i have yet to hear what its like driving.

I just removed all the strips from the side of my car. If you are looking to get it repainted soon like I am just use a scotch Brite pad and some lighter fluid. That took most of it off. It really didn't hurt the paint as much as I thought it would but you can still notice.

Yeah, WCB rules when working around air tools is if you're going to be working longer than 5 minutes, you have to wear ear protection... That **** can be hard on your ears!

Yea real hard on the ears, But make shure when you get done with the car you have full race exaust, spend alot of time dyno tuning, and when your finnally done go with a 500 watt sound system and 15" subs I'm shure you will get used to saying "Huh" alot .
Just Kidding On my friends E Prod BMW we used dry ice and a Dead Blow hammer worked like a champ.
Good Luck

I didn't try this, but maybe you could use some paint thinner to clean off the excess tar once the big pieces are removed. Then paint or primer the bare metal to prevent rust.

The underneith of the car has to be painted after this is removed if i'm not mistaking. The coating only weighs roughly 15lbs anyway.

I messed up my floorpan when I did mine.

use DRY ICE! Thats how its supposed to be done. Dont listen to these **** poor suggestions. Heat will just make a nasty stinky goop out of it. 10lbs of chipped dry ice. cover a section, throw a towel over it to keep the cold in. Have a cold drink, come back, move the dry ice to a new section, cover again, then whack the panel with a mallet. The tar will shatter like glass and come off on big pieces. Rinse lather and repeat as necessary.

i didnt use any dry ice... i did it in the middle of winter with a hammer and long screwdriver. i had to keep moving my light cuz it was melting the tar. Also, this was a race car so i wasnt as careful as you guys would be.

Dry Ice is the way to go. I buy it at "publix" grocery stores.

I am not sure why I did this but here are 3 stores near you.

One thing you should be aware of though is your car is going to be quite a bit louder inside, espically if you remove the padding aswell and have a louder exhaust
