Question Dead Battery

I have a 1985 GSL, no modifications. About six weeks ago I let the car sit for 10 days and when I tried to start it the battery was dead - nothing, not even dash lights. AAA jumped the car and every thing was great. The meter registered 14V when driving so I thought it was just one of those things.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I let the car sit again - no driving for 2 weeks. Tried to start it this morning and again nothing - no click, dash lights, nothing worked.

I am sure that it will start and work just fine if I get it jumped. But there must be something going on here to have it do that twice in such a short time.

Any ideas? I tried searching for a thread with no luck (or maybe no patience!). Any help is appreciated.

WJW

Do you have a means to test the battery?

You must have a slow drain on the battery or the battery is dead and the car is just running on the alt

charge your battery then disconnect the negative batt terminal. place a test light inline which means the aligator clip on the clamp and the pointy end in the battery terminal. if the light lights up you have a drain. start pulling fuses out one by one until the light goes out. when it goes out you have found the circuit thats causing the drain.

This happened to me over the summer. It ended up being a shortin the alternator which drained the battery, so id have your alt tested on a bench tester at autozone or something first. Good luck
