Datsun headlights

Just wondering if anyone ever did a datsun headlights conversion on a FB/SA. It would surely take some metal work or a datsun front end but I'm sure it would look kick-***!

our cars already look enough like datsuns. I think the pop-ups are way nicer anyway. I havent seen any car on here thats done it before but it would be interesting to see. Also i think it might be a lot more work then your thinking of, but if you wanna try it i say go for it!

I know it would be alot of work and I dont plan doing it soon, I'm curious as to what it would look like.

Those headlights are terribly... AWSOME!!!! I wouldn't mind buying a kit for those if there was a direct bolt on kit... Someone make them now! :smiley_12

Wow,I never seen that pic before.
Looks like an early developement pic, possibly a clay mockup.....actually looks pretty cool.

The blue car is simply a flushlight setup, with standard rectangular sealed beam lights set into the factory headlight recesses.Looks like they did a nice job making the buckets under the lids, but it doesnt look like something that'd be too hard to duplicate.
Doing an actual Datsun Z headlight conversion would be quite involving by comparison, since you have to reshape some skin and change from a relatively flat body,to a round curve to encompass the headlight.....as shown in the first pic.

How about a 20B powered 240z? If someone ever manages to do that I think I would worship him!

Instead of the clay mock-up headlights, I'd rather see someone install the Opel GT headlight set up. Now since that car has been out of production longer than 1/2 of the forum has been on planet, I guess you will have to Google Images and find out what I'm talking about, lol.

troch: surprisingly enough as rare as the opel GT is nowadays i have seen about 4 of them in town here and i know where 2 are at in manteca. i have only seen 2 running though. ia gree the opel lights would look much better than the 260z lights. imo the 280z lights stick up too far on the hood, but incorporate part of the opel front end along with the lights and you would have a 1 of a kind stunner....assuming you can find a decent pic with measurements or an opel with the front end NOT smashed up to use as a model for fab/mock up work.

any chance i can get you to make me a prototype?

I haven't see a GT for years and I'm not sure if my fab skills would be up to the task. Let alone all the projects I already have scheduled.

I see them around here and there.Ive seen a yellow one and an orange one recently, and Im sure there were a few at the wrecker too.
Seems the older hippy guys in the town where I work, seem to like them......not implying anything with that remark, just a simple observation.

I think that would be pretty cool.Something along the lines of the 928 Porsche style pop-ups would be interesting too.It wouldnt be to everyones tastes, but itd be a definate conversation piece....

Its a hippy Mecca here in NorCal.......its also 10 miles from the Bohemian Grove, which is a club/resort where the big wigs.....like every Republian President over the last 100 years......go to party. The frikken Manhatten Project was conceived there!.......kinda odd they choose this area.....I guess they just like to **** off the local peace loving liberals!!

LOL, sounds like a fun area just to watch the dichotomy between the 'super *****' and the 'let it all hang out crowd'.

you know how wierd that would look? if you have seen the pic of the fc with the porche 911 front end, then thats about it. i have a datsun 280z, i would never ever EVER think about trying to combine the two. and i disagree with whoever it was that said they look alike, the datsun is SOOOO curvy, while the 7 is boxy. negative kudos for you!
i dont know, im in a funny mood right now! im cold but im drinking a milk shake (lol)

peace

I actually had a chance to buy an Opel GT a while back. Man that car sat there for a good 6 months or more. I just wanted to buy it for the sake of owning it. It didn't run, they couldn't even keep air in the tires, but she was a gorgeous car with no rust that I saw, and orange as old *** paint could be without complete fade. =D

So: you want someone to mass produce a kit that is not common? I hate to tell you, but the minite someone mass produces something it becomes common.... :-)
If you want the one-off look you have to pay the big bucks or build it yourself. Fiberglass is fairly easy to work with, it just takes a lot of time. Best thing to do is find something with the basic design you like & adapt that to your car. Notice all the custom panels are molded in on the blue car? No way to mass produce that unless you want to ship *very* large peices (basicly a whole body).
And no the RX7's don't look anything like the Z's or ZX's. I have one of each. The Z car lights would look good, but you'd have to make more changes than that 'cause they have more height than is on our fenders (above the bumper).
