Damm Car!!

Well I haven't driven the rx7 for a few months, so I decided to sell it. Well the buyer bought it, drove to rochester, then drove it back to the cities... and it died. He calls me and starts cursing/swearing/and b*chin on how i sold him a lemon, I told him all the problems it had to the exact t. (leaky exhaust, leaker slave cylinder, needs new shocks). So after trailering the rx7 home, Im stuck with decisions. Do I tear apart the rotary and fix it, replace the motor with something else, or cut my losses and crush it into a cube. If I go for the first two options, its going to take time. I have my 1993 talon to fix, my 1990 needs some parts to get the the track, and Im in the process of trying to start a performance shop...damm punk kids..i tell ya.
btw the engine doesn't start, doesn't even crank, im going to check the starter here in the next few weeks, but im 90% sure it carbon locked or a seal (probably apex) failed. I guess it ran great after he put in 92 octane on the way back, then it just lost all power (or felt like it lost compression he said). I tried to tell him rotaries just 'pop' sometimes without warning, he wasn't convinced so I gave him most of his money back.
argg...what a day, then my 1990 overheats and i needed to repace the water pump. but its over now..im going to bed.
thanx for the space.

Used cars are sold as-is where-is as far as I'm concerned... not my fault if the thing dies a week later. I woulda just told him "tough luck buddy, that's the way used cars go..."

anyways... if you have to keep it now... sell the talon and fix it up

sounds like if it won't crank AT ALL the starter's gone, or wiring to it...

also check the compression right off the bat.. that'll tell you for sure what's wrong...

I'm with him on this one. Don't take the car back, don't give the guy his money back. Buying a used car is just like spinning the roulette wheel. You win some, you lose some. So long as you thought the motor was fine, then you have no obligation to the buyer. You could be a nice guy and help the new owner put a motor in, provided he buys the motor, but that's as far as you should go.

Dude the guy put in 92 octane! They're supposed to run on 87 and the guy put in something else. So it's really his own fault the car stopped running... (Higher octance fuel doesn't combust fully in a rotary? ===> carbon buildup ===> carbon lock?) I agree with Keaponlaffen and MosesX605; keep the money. But if you already gave him his money back... I say keep the car!

You sound like a reasonable guy, actually giving back most of the guy's money after he drove it several hundred miles. Most people sell 'used' items as 'no warranty'. I can only assume you gave this guy some time of garantee on the car in order to sell it to him or he wouldn't have bought it. How much did you charge him for the car? Now, I am an RX7 onwer nubee, but I have read extensively about them (buyer's guides and such). Carbon locked engines usually sit for some time, which allows the carbon to flake off the rotor and jam the apex seal. Not likely to happen when driving a car daily. Can they do this after sitting, then being driving for a few days?
Also, if carbon buildup is normal, is there some way to remove it- I assume it hurts performance?

actually f* him, i had to do a timing belt, headgasket (blew it) and water pump all this week on my talon, just got off the phone with my lawyer..the instant message im going to shoot him on our local boards will read 'so where do you want the car?'
i'll offer to tow it down to rochester from plymouth if he requests it, thats it..i can't afford to be mister nice guy anymore, i get screwed to much. Thank you for the moral support guys, i'll still be around, even if i am rx7 less.

and to whomever posted sell the talon to fix the rx7
1) which one? i have 2
2) your crazy!!!
I charged him $850 delivered to his friends house (a minor, well 3 hour in-convinece) He immediatly offered me $150 after i talked to him, i pretty much had to 'agree' on the spot just to get him and his friend out of my talon and out of my hair that day!
when it comes down to it, i can't afford to cough up that $700 and make my bills...i will offer him an apology, but tough luck i guess (after talking to him, he bragged to me how he has managed in the past to buy cars 'before' and destroyed them, then returning them to owner, almost as if he does this **** for fun and tries to manilupate (spelling?) previous owners).
conditions of car:
-had leaky master cylinder
-exhaust needed repair at header flange
-idled weird
-needed new shocks in rear (bottomed out)
-had minor surface rust on body (with one rust hole in passenger side door)
-car had 158xxx on it
-started and ran fine for me everytime, just recently had plugs/distributor cap/wires done and fresh fluids.
So, in general, f* him, i'll tow it.

Personally, i would of told him to deal with it (then again, i would have a hard time selling my 7). Give it an over-nite atf to soak in. See if that loosen's things up. If not, don't crush it, not without spreading the se love to those of us that have se's and need parts... *grin* Sorry to hear about all your car troubles... i swear they collaborate on breaking down at the same time. Either that, or my Gsl is jealous of my se.... *shrug*
