On the other hand orion, ebay kills stores, you can still get killer deals you just need to know how to go about it (i myself also use ebay so kinda hypocritical)

Agreed with the chose of car.

Out of curiousity how much did that system with FB, MDF, dynomat, amps etc WEIGH do you know?

True that it does effect the retail stores profit, but unfortunatly that's the name of the game. If you sell it for a higher price than someone else, expect to lose sales. On top of that, I hate going into a store and haggling with people. I see a price, if it's fair I pay it, if not I look elsewhere. If I really want whatever item it is, and don't feel like running all over hell's creation to get it, then I'll pay a little extra. Most people don't factor in the time it takes to find a cheaper price, the headache with sitting in traffic all day, plus the gas to run around into the $20 cheaper price tag over at store #2.

First my qualifications, former manager/lead installer at Audio Park Casper, in Hayama Japan for 5 years.. currently i run a much larger shop that is not specialized in any one discipline

You came into the forum ready to pick a fight and talk **** to everybody who has posted. Many of the forum members have more patience than I do, and I thought about posting earlier, but I decided to wait and see the photos. While the equipment is all OK and the install is nice, it is still at best a so so install. door mounted speakers?

for any type of sound quality those went out of style in the early 90's minimum would be kick panel mounted mid and tweet or at least a center speaker setup to help balance the sound stage somewhat.

non $$$ spared would have gotten you some image dynamics horn loaded compression drivers mounted under the dash with perfect imaging and staging oh yeah they run 1000.00 just for the horn drivers, does not include the required midbass's at 200 per pair or the 24 db crossover required it is about 1400 (IDX24 made by image dynamics) for a total of 2400 just for the front speakers.

if you do not like image dynamics then you could go USD they make horn drivers also.

The above does not include the install price of the horns....

your amps are what class A/B at best? its been years since alpine made any class A gear, what sort of D/A convertor does your headunit use? oh yeah its a kenwood they do not tend to use high quality ones, especially in their one unit does all models, while some of their more upscale non navi headunits do use some respectable D/A convertors they have to scimp somewhere when they make a one unit does all, and its usually in the quality of the D/A convertors.

no $$$ spared? i think not, a true no dollars spared would have placed a couple of midbases either 6" or 8" somewhere in the front to help the imaging of the system. it would have included much more sound deading than what was installed in that car, mimimum would have been a total layer of dynomat on the floor, preferably two layers. it would have included some poly foam in all of the dead voids in the rear to reduce rattles from the sub. it would have included balanced line drivers from the head unit to the amps to prevent any possibilily of noise induction, and the list goes on.

in short while it is a nice install for a 1st gen, it is far from being a top of the line sound quality install and what you need to remember is that just like building engines, or custom body work there is always something better.

acting like an *** to the members of the forum will get somebody like me on who has enough experience in the area you are discussing to cut you off at the knees. As a 30 something year old I would expect you to act less like a 16 year old and more like the adult that you are.

go be the mac daddy elsewhere balla
First off I never came into the forum to pick a fight. People made comments positive or negative and I responded. You would have done the same, right?

As far as the door mounted speakers I already covered this in another post. Speakers of todays design work just as well with no pods if other measures have been taken.

Did you read the title of the post? It says " Custom Sub box for 1st gen no $$$ spared" I never said the end all be all system for a car. I know there is an interest around sub enclosures for the 1st gen so my focus was there. I posted the other components because of the interest expressed by others on what else I was doing.

Thanks for you positive comment that it os a nice install for a 1gen. Although it most likely not the best I am sure it is within the top 10 systems for a 1gen. Anyway you look at it I am happy with it.

So heres me being an *** again. Go sit on your horns buddy.

From my reading to do kick panels properly, the angle should be positioned to the top center of the car for a more neutral sound. So what you do is grab some strings and tape them up in place to find out angle needed.

I'm not going to argue too much more, while it is better than just slapping a box in there, it far from the best.
Topic was, "Custom Sub box for 1st gen no $$$ spared" not the entire system. I was not building a competition system here. Just something I would enjoy. Guys we are dealing with such a small space here in these cars. You really think making the speakers angled by a few degrees will make a noticeable audible difference? Audible being the word here?

I also agree that the title left alot to be desired. If no expense was spared than why don't you have a wall of subs behind the seats and eight batteries, etc etc etc? Also as a side note to everyone interested in audio on a budget, eBay is your friend. My modest $1000 system would have cost at least double that, if not more had I gone to a retail store.

First off I have a GSL-SE so it weighs a bit more than that. Second it was more like quarter of tree, we did some fiberglass work. I was not interested in over kill here with multiple subs. I was going for a clean install.

As far as ebay I too have purchased many things on ebay with success. Until recently I bought a clifford alarm for like $250 and it was dead.

Thanks for you two cents here, it was valuable.
