When I get home.. I'll link a site that have doubble din radios for the 1st genz.. and alex.. there is a radio that looks like it belongs there...It's already installed in your car :]~

Don't forget that the tach and speedometer use different fonts for the numbers... a little annoying. And they put the tach in wrong - it's supposed to be in the center of the panel!

Oh well, at least the red lighting has grown on me... it's easier to read at night (red is a very controlled color, very distinct, and it doesn't glare or look fuzzy) and it reminds me of some German cars that have similar lighting. Unfortunately, to fix the tach problem would mean new gauges that don't have that color. So stock it will stay...

Ya know, at first I didn't think that the empeg would look good in the center console, since it's black and the console is silver, but it's growing on me. I replaced the stock blue filter on the VFD w/ a "red one" and it glows the exact orange that the rest of the interior lights glows. It looks PERFECT at night.

Again, big pic, and i never have gotten around to rotating it 90*.

@WOT the needle is just below the 0, and at idle the needle reads ~18.5 inches. That pic was taken, as the name sorta suggests after revving the car up to like 6000 and pressing the button just as I take my foot off the gas. Hence 2 bars on the a/f gauge and 26 inches on the boost/vac gauge

Hey, if any of you remember, a while ago I was talking about the whole Knight Rider thing, and the digital gauges...Well, I finally got around to photoshopping what I was talking about. Although its done horribly, it gives you the idea. Also, thanks to smnc for the pic of the dash, and I used some of the basic layout of his design also.

PS - Im actually thinking about making one of these (if I ever get any money ), I still say it would be tight to get into your car in the dark with no visable dash and then just be surrounded by "floating" numbers after you turn on the car . Also, anyone know of any gauges I should put in and/or switch out?

Ok, LOTS AND LOTS . Each of the little gauges are like $40 each and the tach and speedo are over $150 each I think...It'll be pricey. I think Im gonna just buy em one with every paycheck and then try and get all of them first, then start the project

Hehe, you just modified my dash plan... Basically you just replaced my planned Autometer Phantom analogs with digi guages... Looks good, although I'm not a big fan of digi guages...

It may interest you to know that I'm planning on producing my dash blanks in limited number, so that people can create their own dash with whatever guages they want...

Personally I wouldn't bother with the fuel press. It's not somthing that you normally need to keep an eye on, except if you're troubleshooting or tinkering... I was thinking of putting in a rail-mounted fuel-press guage in the engine bay...

Well, the only problem is that the CNC router I'm using to make them isn't mine, so the number of dashes I can produce is limited...

But if there is enough interest after the first limited batch is done, I'll find a way to make more, don't you worry...

how are we going to get the warning lights to work in the autometer cluster?
going to be a bit of work to seperate them from the cluster and rewire the lights, ouch

i donot see warning lights as being that much of a concern, but turn signal lights would be nice... either way, some reworking will have to be done.

It won't be easy. But it can be done. The two rear
connector plugs go to every single warning light switch,
and are labled in the Haynes manual.

In the early 90's, I transplanted an 85 interior (dash and all) into an 81 GSL. It took me a while, but once I figured out which plug goes where - it was much easier.

As far as this case goes, my recommendation would be
to get the warning light cluster from a 2nd GEN, as they are seperate from the cluster, and would be easier to wire up, than to seperate the original gauge from it's warning lights.

Just a thought..

where are you guys getting 2.5 din from?
i had a double din radio fit perfect on my last 84,
also had a standard din radio with a standard din eq fit perfect on my 84 that i have now,
presently i have a 1.5 din radio that has just enough room for a .5 din eq "go figure"
which i will use that space for various switches


if you have an 84-85 a double din will fit perfect.
even crutchfield says its a double din

also it is a common misconception that because there are three pieces it is a 1.5 din
but this is the first time i heard 2.5
that would mean that every piece out of the three pieces is equal to the size of a standard car radio.
when in fat each piece is about .666666 din x 3 is roughly 2 din
double chack with a standard car radio and a standard half din eq.
