cup holder

I've had it, I just have to have a cup holder in my rx-7. Sadly manntis no longer makes the kick *** ones with the gauges in them.

So have any of you rigged up a cup holder in your 7? Its cant be anything whimpy either, its gotta be able to hold the 44oz montrosity from jack in the box.

Pictures would kick *** too.

on passenger side of center console there is a scre for mounting a bit of carpet, go down to your local zellers or walmart, and pick up one of these, they are like 5$, adjustable, folds out of the way, and scew in with the original factory screw, competely reversable:

PS, comes in black usually:

My Mark II stereo bracket/cupholder unit is about to come off the assembly lines. I played with several different designs but was having problems with warping acrylic or holes having to be drilled where material was the thinnest to facilitate a drop-down 'shelf' to support the bottom of the drink...

...and after all that time, expense, and frustration I had a 'eureka' moment. The new design is more stable and more rugged than the Mark I (with the cup supported at sides AND bottom, not just sides, and deleting the foamcore parts in favour of painted wood)

Unfortunately the new design is available in cubbyhole style only, with a separate unit without the cupholders for the three-gauge style for turbo owners.

Watch for updates on http://www.rotorhead.ca

Manntis,

Any updates on Pamela's sister, - Carmen Electra?

You never filled us in on Pamela's replacement.

she's undergoing a slow and careful 'restoration', including bodywork, paint, and transplanting some of Pam's best bits (Racing Beat parts, the rims that could be salvaged, the custom painted centre dash console, etc)

heh carmen... I like that. Sounds better than Pam II.

Don't forget to hold on to the original Mazda battery you were sporting.

LOL - thats not a cup holder. The glove box indents are there to used when the car is NOT MOVING, like when you are eating at a take-out.
I can't believe that someone actually tried to use this thing while the car whas moving.

I've been working on a cup holder in my 85 and I think I have it figured out. I went to the local U-Wrench-it and bought a cup hold/coin holder form a 92 Taurus. The assembly is about the same size as a DIN radio so I thought it might fit under the radio. Well the shifter hits there so I relocated the radio to the bottom and put the cup holder above it. I know it's not a good idea to have a cup holder above a radio but hey it's all I got!! I'll get pics of it if anyone is interested..
I had to change the cup holder/ coin tray also so the coin tray is on bottom of the cup holder and cut the rear corners off the trays. I believe this will work in 84's too, I guess anything with a double DIN opening.

Manntis,

The stereo/cubbyhole thing is coming back? I never really cared for the cupholder part of it because there's a rule of "no eating, drinking or smoking" in Jon's car. But I'm looking to get one so that by the end of the summer I can mount an aftermarket radio. I really liked the look of the old radio/cubby one, so I hope the new one is similar

You've *gotta* post when you've released it.

Jon

There is someone who just started a thread about using a Volvo armrest. It fits in the center section of the Rx7, and comes with a cup holder. The thread is here somewhere!
