cruise control removal

Just wanted to double check a few things before I get out there and start pulling it all out. I've got the cruise control lose, removed the two bolts hold it on. All I need to do now is remove the throttle cable, and cap the vacuum tube that runs to the cruise control right?

Also, I've heard there's a computer for it under the passenger storage bin. Is this just for cruise control? If so, I'm assuming i can pull it without consequences. Anything I need to do on the nikki after pulling the cable from the cruise control as well?

Thanks for the help

I believe the boxes behind the storage bins are the factory amps for your stereo...

No computer, computers are artifacts of modern cars that have no soul.

All you need to do is remove the cruise unit, then tie up the control lever on the carb with a plastic clinch tie so that it doesn't get hung up on anything. Kind of looks like this.

there is a box under the bin. You can remove it or leave it. You can just unplug it and pull the cruise fuse in the fuse block under the dash.

Good point Chris, you are talking SE's with the fuel injection. Those things probably have computers that want to talk to the cruise control.

Nikki's don't, they use a magic cable box over by the master cylinder. So it depends on what you got.

I'm not too sure about that Ray. On an 85 12A I stripped it had a small cruise control computer inside the drivers bin. It also had the actuator under the hood, along with the stalk switches and the main enable switch in the dash.

Damn. You mean my 85 GSL has a computer I don't know about? That makes me nervous.

I'm going to go out and have a look.

OK, here's what I got. Which one's the computer? I need to unplug that thing.

Gold box between the two leaves on the right.

The zip tied lever I thought was for the hot start assist? I just put cruise back on and IIRC the cable goes through one of the half moon deals like the throttle cable on the carb.

Again, pretty sure the bracket above that is zip tied is for the Hot Start Assist that sits on the drivers side strut tower.

Nothing to tie up with the cruise arm. It's works like the throttle and doesn't hang.
