Question Cruise Control help?

Anybody know where I can find information on "Installing my cruise control"?

I have searched inside of my manual, and I have found nothing. I have a cruise control option on my car, and I would like to be able to use it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think he means that the car came with the cruise control option.
90% of the time problems with cruise control can be traced back to the brake switch. I cant say this for sure in the RX-7s case, but I know in the other cars Ive owned this is often the problem.

Do you still have the emission controll system functioning on the car? I know lots of the time people lose their cruise when they pull the rats nest, this could be because they also pull the cruise actuator or related componants.
In any case it could be a handfull of things.

That means his car did not come with cruise^. Yes there are aftermarket units available.
You could also change your combo switch, add the cruise switch and components from a 7 that came with cruise. Tip. 81-85 models were all designed to add all options. Such as power mirrors, power hatch, A/C, Cruise, power windows,etc...

It came with cruise control, but I think it got ripped out with emissions. Jose the rotary mechanic did it for the previous owner. I have the cruise button, it lights up and everything.

Where is this aftermarket system located?

The only thing I remember that is for the cruise on the rats nest is a vacuum source. The actuator is mounted on the passenger side near the firewall and a cable goes from there to the carb. The combo switch, cruise button, control unit for the cruise should still be in the car.

Aftermarket cruise units are available at most auto parts stores.

That has nothing to do with your cruise control, thats the hot start assist system. Whoever is selling that doesnt know what they are talking about.
It mounts right behind the drivers side strut, but its prety useless IMO.

What your looking for is a larger contraption that is on the passenger side of the engine bay, and is mounted to the firewall right near the vin plate...

Ive hooked a vacuum line up to it, it doesent do anything. The vacuum hose just shrinks up not allowing any air through the passage. The switch doesent open or anything.

Im going to check it with a volt meter in a minute.

Where should the cable be hooked onto the carb? Its a 84 carb. Can I see a picture?

Is it that lever thats hanging down below the accelerator cable?. If somone hits the gas and I hold it, it keeps gas pedal down.......

Is that what I need to hook it up too?

Let's see, from memory. 4 cables go into the throttle linkage. Accel pedal, choke, hot start assist, cruise control. Starting from the firewall, accel pedal... ahh **** I can't remember the sequence, it's been over a year.

Edit: the second one. So the arm next to the throttle arm in the carb's throttle linkage, that's the one the cruise control cable hooks up to.

Refer to the carb manual in the FAQ section (or trochoid's signature ) for illustrations.

Then you just answered your own question. If the Haynes shows every hook up but the CC, then the CC is the only spot left to connect to. DOH!
